Is it just me, or does everyone with their location listed as USA show "Singapore" as their location? Maybe there is a glitch......
I think the server has moved and it shows where your signal is coming from. I am not a techy but that is my guess.
Yes, the server has been moved to Singapore. Same hosting provider, just closer to the fine folks of Dumaguete. We also needed to address performance issues from the previous regime. Thanks for pointing out this issue. I'll check into it. Please point out any other problems which you come across (be easy on me, I'm only do servers, I'm not a doctor or a psychologist) Thanks!
The previous server was in Singapore with the same hosting company. Did you start using Cloudflare? The location flags use user's IP addresses to determine what flag to show. If Cloudflare is sitting between the user and the host it may cause some issues. The feature can be deactivated.
Ah, touché! We're not using Cloudflare right now. My guess would be that Xenforo sets user flags by default based on the server location if the user hasn't explicitly set a location. Given that the server was already in Singapore, I may be wrong (which is okay, it won't be the first for this hour and won't be the last.) There may also be a difference in the server config. Not sure, but it's on my to do list.
If I play around with the settings for the mod they start showing proper locations again. This is the setting that seems to fix the issue: Not sure if that means anything to a server monkey. Everyone's flags will remain Singapore until they log in again and the forum logs their new IP address. Yours was showing as Singapore before this little glitch. Might be your ISP. (Note that mine says Germany while I'm on my WiFi. It will say Afghanistan while I'm on my mobile. If you are using a VPN it should show what country those servers are in. The location has never been perfect.)
I think this is the right answer. The server move may have kicked out saved (cached) login location data and the info will update as people log back in. There may be some kinks (such as settings you mentioned) but it does seem to be updating for some users now (it's working on islander time.) Thanks for your help @Wrye83
