You only have to look at the mess Cebu City is in to see what can happen.

Yah, its already been happening hard. Guess I should have said I see Dumaguete hitting the utter sh*t status in 5-10 years. Back in 2011 when I first move to Dumaguete things were a lot nicer. Since then very little has improved while so much has gotten worse. I guess one of the few *better* things is we don't have a Sunday brownout every 2-3 weeks. Of course now they are making brownouts happen on Saturday when they need to fix their crap.

This is a pattern I've seen happen over and over. The down hill spiral of a nice place as it is destroyed by it's own success. Many of the places I visited 20+ years ago are crowded, dirty places these days. Dumaguete, Alona Beach, Boracay, Quepos, Cancun, Phuket, Bali, Koh Samui. I wonder what El Nido is like these days.

Same will happen in Panglao and Mactan if some Chinese with enough money want to build a casino there, until then, go on take a swim in your own sh*t

Many people fear that same thing will happens to Port Barton (San Vicente, Palawan) also. It is a very beautiful and scenic place. They don't want this place to be sacrificed to the masstourism.

Thailand is closing Maya Bay because of overcrowding.

Just wanted to say this last week I enjoyed Angus Steak Cheeseburger's at Burger King in SM Bacolod and SM Iloilo. Bacolod had grilled onions in their burger, very good. Maybe Burger King is only located at SM Malls.

I will come back and read this entire thread later, but I have yet to find a really good restaurant here. Fast food, especially McDo cr*p is REALLY unhealthy, thought it tastes good.
Loaded with sodium, fat, sugar and carbs. Take a look at the movie "supersize me" for proof of that.

Mel's restaurant comes close to healthy food, but the menu is limited and the prices are a bit high.

Let's face it. Healthy food mostly is not that good tasting, unless you really know now to cook.

If i wanted incredible food, i woulda stayed in san fran, breakfast for two is $50... But there are several very good places here most with healthy food, or small quantities of bad stuff; alima, adamo, coffee grove, salaya, atmosphere (sf prices), kri, casablanca, lantaw.. There are a whole lot of good places, mifuni, andy's, tinto, tres, flamin grill, l'estralla, Naspri, maybe south beach, and a bunch i've forgotten.

And yes, places go downhill. We liked Don Atilano when we got here, but the service went to hell, making it not worth the cost. Unfortunately we said that to the owner of JLH butcher downstairs, not realizing she was the owner of both... JLH is amazing for small quantities of great meats and more ex-pat condiments, easier to get to than Rustans... The last time we went to Pasta King, the cream sauce had completely separated and curdled. The burgers were great, i'm afraid to try them now ?? We finally tried El Dorado, but the food was as marginal as WhyNot, same owner. So life goes on, and you deal with the restaurants if you plan on living here.
