No worries. Just so you know 25 is a fair price, 20 is a good prices and anything below is a great deal if the bike is in good shape. Enjoy Dumaguete.

I would look for a Bajah/Kawasaky CT 100, a very good, reliable bike...

Hello everyone, I'm new to Dumaguete and this site. I just wanted to bump this post up as I am wanting to buy a motorcycle to take me from Valencia to Silliman University Medical Centre. As I understand it, you'd really want to buy from a dealer rather than second hand. What dealership would you guys recommend? What motorcycle too (I'm not a motorcyclist, I am a cyclist but I would want the motorcycle to get me to and from SUMC)? Opinions on 125cc vs a more powerful bike?

    Thanks.

As you are not an avid motorcyclist and just using the motorcycle for commuting up and down the hill, I suggest you would be fine with a Honda 125 Click scooter. I have one that gets up and down that hill quite easily. Has space under the seat for a few things. Can hang grocery bags between your feet and can get saddlebags for additional space as required. Any Honda dealer will sell them.

As for buying new or used, keep an eye out for an "almost new" one. Sometimes a foreigner will come here and buy a new motorcycle rather than rent one and then sell it cheap when he leaves. But you are competing with lots of other buyers for those sweet deals so it may take a while to find one.

Thanks for the quick response. Honda would be the best recommended then? As for where to buy (I saw you mentioned any Honda dealer), would you recommend any one in particular?

I brought my bike from Canada and was planning to bike to work but found a gorgeous place in Valencia. I don't want to be sweaty when I get to work hence the motorcycle.

No, because this is Philippines and your experience will vary from everyone else. It is what it is. However many people suggest Du Ek Sam. I am not their biggest fan, but I cannot deny they are good when the mood strikes them.

EDIT: I mentioned the Honda Click 125 but many, many people choose the Honda Beat 125 which is a similar scooter and a bit cheaper. Up to you as they say.

Hahaha. That way I won't need hair products (if without a helmet... which I'll have)!!!

Joking aside. You will be fine with any 125cc scooter. Anything smaller and it will struggle to get you up the hill to Valencia, especially with a passenger (100cc will get you up the hill but you will be constantly pushing the engine to it's limits).

I would personally go with a, new or slightly used, Honda Wave. Tried and true (1995-present), easy to get parts and to find someone who can repair it. Very simple bike, not much can go wrong with it.
