After seeing this news paper article it seems Ormoc City is a better candidate than Naga City. Naga City seems to have the highest crime rate per 100,000 people in the country while Ormoc City have the lowest one. But the biggest surprise on the list for me is Angeles City being having a quite low crime rate.
It is clearly a matter of personal opinion. I wish every expat thought like you did. Every expat who moves to Ormoc City is one more who will not be coming to Dumaguete. Yayyyyy! There is a saying "the more the merrier" but there is also a saying "too many cooks spoil the broth". With all the expert expats coming to Dumaguete to solve all the problems they have here, I find the second saying the more apt. Enjoy Ormoc.
Can you please stop. I was only half joking about not mentioning the place. Promote the city you like all you want. I'm not looking for a debate about the place or looking to compare it to anything else. I do feel this site is partially responsible for ruining Valencia. I have learned my lesson about promoting places I like to the elderly. Won't happen again.
What happened in Valencia? As I was there 2013 it looked still nice and well and it is still a candidate for a future living. But if I prefer a low expat location I would probably look for a different place. I did mentioned Ormoc City as an example because we have relatives living there and therefore I know that city. I'm having a sad feeling about that Dumaguete is on a degrading race while other cities (Bayawan, Naga, Ormoc, Tagum, even Bais and so on) are improving. The Dumaguete in 2009 looked better than the one in 2013. And it seems, reading in this forum that Dumaguete is still degrading. Even my wife (she was there last time end of 2016) told me that she feels sorry about Dumaguete. At least there are some lights of improvements visible: the upcoming renovation and improving of the boulevard, the ACE hospital and some more stuff. Tanjay is a nice little and clean city. Bad that it is not getting more love. At least it will get a new hospital. On Neg Or on my possible living place lists are Bayawan, Bais and Valencia. Tanjay and Guihulngan are in the second row. Issues with the second row is the lack of a somewhat decent hospital. For small sickness are the local hospitals ok. But for greater stuff either have to go to Bacolod or Dumaguete. Bayawan and Bais are on the way to get (I hope) decent hospitals. There is a great forum about upcoming projects and projects u/c around. My question is if I'm allowed to link it here as a great source?
I've heard they are super into Christianity and expats there. I suggest buying some "What Would Jesus Do" shirts and some shirts with large foreign flags on them to let everyone know who and what you are. I've heard the locals love that so much that they even insist on taking you on guided camping tours into the jungles to show their appreciation for you visiting their island.
I am sure they are a cut above the rest, provided you keep your head if the natives get restless. Great place for napping or just hangin'. Not many places to spend your money but that's not so bad. I hear its cheap to get there but can cost a fortune to get out of there so best to have a lot of cash stashed in a safe place if planning to visit.
