No signing bonuses when I enlisted and I lived in the barracks. Base pay was all I got. Just looked it up, $551.40 then less taxes ect was definitely under $500 in my pocket.
A recruiting station? 9/11 and the perpetual war that followed kind of changed things up a bit and made recruiting people a bit more difficult. The big recruiting bonuses are only for certain jobs, either one that require a high altitudeaptit score, ones that really suck that nobody wants to do or both. Looked up the base pay for 2005. I was making $1,456.20/month when I first came in. an E3 now is making $1931.00 now. I wonder how much a lap dance costs these days? It was $20 when I was in.
Depends what country. I would imagine the pay goes further when stationed in a shithole with cheap lap dances.
Well I wasn't too far from the Vietnam 'Conflict' so I don't imagine there was tons of people volunteering. My overall ASVAB score was 96 (out of 99), as far as the specialty scores I qualified for every job. They were paying re-enlistment bonuses then but not enlistment bonuses.
Went in 1969 and base pay for E1 was 115.20 LOL, but I bought a new VW in 70 for 2k out the door ... so its all relative
The reenlistment bonus was absolute crap when I got out in 2008. It was around a month's pay for signing up for another 3-4 years. Laughed my way out of their office and into a contracting job.
Lol No. But it was one of the main reasons why soldiers were broke shortly after payday when I was in.
I have to say I am a bit disappointed - I was hoping there were some pics floating around from those days. But then perhaps a good thing as too many elderly expats would have died laughing.
