looking to purchase some 6x1 boards,ie floor boards, for a gardening project, any advise of decent timber yards in city vicinity???

consider coconut slabs if you're going to do raised beds. there's a place in my neighborhood that has slabs dumped on the roadside, i don't know what they're doing with them but there's way too many for one house so i assume they're reselling.

any lumber you buy is probably going to be green and lead heavy. my choice for long term raised beds would be hollow block.

 

Hi ya, a very simple preservative for timber here in the Phil's is 10% diesel and 90% waste oil, a couple of coats will keep the boko at bay for few years. try and air dry the timber for a while if you can.

 

Even with air drying first, is this healthy - especially if used within a confined space?

 

It's probably not very healthy. The hazardous things are chromium, zinc and lead in the oil from engine wear. I wouldn't worry to much about that as the oil/fuel soak into the wood.
My gemalina ( sp) trusses were treated with oil/diesel 9 years ago. Nothing lives in my attic, not even a spider.

 

I would not worry about what soaked into the wood (except if the skin comes into direct contact) but I would worry about any gases which come from it - this, of course, is more likely at higher temperatures (the sort of thing one gets in an enclosed space in a hot country).

 

Just outside Zamboanguita looks to be a Wood Mill of sorts. Always has lots of cut Lumber laying around along with fresh Lumber. Heading South it is on the left hand side just as you are heading out of Zamboanguita.

Looks pretty messy in that picture. Last time I was outside the gate it was pretty well organised with loads of fresh cut lumber, but as is usual, most could not run a successful Chook Raffle here. Wouldn't surprise me if it has changed hands and been turned to shyte...
