Better than taking the risk of getting crushed or possibly eaten by the 5'5" 350 pound American woman.
Croatia is not cheap anymore, it is quite expensive. Portugal is cheaper (language a bit more difficult than Spanish). I still think Canary Island is the cheapest for western lifestyle. Do not forget you get excellent health coverage for around 100 Euros / month (even over 60) in Spain. A lot of older people are concerned about that ( I am still far away from that though....)
I'm not the type who lives next door to the hospital, but for sure if you have some health problems you need put that in the basket when you consider where to live. Portugal has up to date health care and it's free if you come from a country in the Europian Union. You can always discuss what is cheap, think we all compare with our home country
In Denmark it's my impression there is no difference of the quality of their work if you go to the public or a private hospital, have been both places, only you can go in front of the line in private if you pay. My information says Portugal have the same standard as Denmark, where Croatia still are behind
Hmmmm maybe the private have little more class, where the nurses in the public are more "open mined" live with one in 6 years. What I like with a nurse the know the body anatomy and not to much talk, the like action, just my experience
