The embalming, I suppose, is to enable 1 to 3 days viewing before disposition. In some cultures, e.g. Jewish, burial should be prompt. That, by the way, solves the mystery of the missing body (Roman soldiers asleep at the mouth of the cave).
I left explicit instructions in the event of my demise. I am to be cremated and my ashes placed in pepper shakers to be distributed to Jollibees in Dumaguete.
From the date and time of death you have 24 hours to have the body cremated which will be 45,000 pesos at the Chinese cemetery at the back of the Capitol. The crematorium will not except the body after the 24 hours if the body is not embalmed. That is their rules like it or not. Sadly I know cuz I have just cremated my good American Amigo RIP mate

The plan was 30K each. My wife told me the plan has an "insurance type element" in the plan. She said if you are over 60 and not fully paid up you do not have to make any more payments to get the service. I think she had that backwards. I'm guessing if you die before 60 the outstanding balance will not have to be paid. The way I see it if I was 75 years old and on my deathbed, that would be an ideal time to sign up if my wife was correct. Funeral plot is not included. I think the cost for a spot in the wall at the Catholic cemetery in Bacong is about 5000 pesos. ( not completely sure about the 5000).
