welcome to our Duma area, many nice spots around here for living and leisure. The usual issues like anywhere in the Phils, but much more comfort for the foreigner, f.ex. food supply etc. Don't listen to much to all the grumbling guys, if they don't grumble they have nothing to do.

Talking about serious medical problems that has quite some impact on your health, I do not consider as grumbling.

I think that we almost have a 'duty' to each other to inform about health issues, services (medically, food, leisure) and anything which impacts on our lives here. If it is truly to reflect then it has to include some negatives (e.g. "I went to X restaurant and found the food cold and very unpleasant"). Where I am sure we all agree is the pointlessness of just writing how much you hate the place - in that case then go elsewhere until you find somewhere you like. But telling the truth and helping us keep healthy, happy and avoid wasting our money by bad choices we could have avoided is a prime benefit of this website.

Generally speaking I fully agree. If you want to have the full picture, negatives need to be included.

This could be really important for all of us it comes to doctors, hospitals, landlords, visa - stuff, safety reports and stuff like that.

In terms of bars, restaurants and hotels it is very difficult to give recommendations. Of course you can report about cleanness and service standards in general. But if it comes to taste ? I like a certain dish in a certain place, and you might find it tastes too spicy. Or the other way round. Who is right ?

I enjoy reading comments from other members about their experiences. But some of them might be true for them, not for me.

Anyway, exchanging information is always a good thing. That’s why I am here.

You should rethink - if not Dumaguete then some other place. Life is beautiful here!

Its his choice I guess and if he chooses to move out, good on him. We are better off without having him in our midst complaining all the time.

    I'm totally confused.

Why would someone spend a year in a place that they think is "a heap of trash and filth", "ridiculous and unhealthy", "typical Filipino crap", and "appalling quality of life".

Surely if one felt that strongly they wouldn't stay, even if it meant losing a deposit on a rental for breaking a contract.

    Or am I missing something?

Personally I think The Philippines is great. Not perfect, but nowhere is.

Yes agreed I was wondering why he would pick somewhere close to the Hypermart and next to a smelly drainage ditch .... the man is a no-brainer. Probably one of those I often l hear complaining loudly to small innocent waitresses at YNot causing them to break into tears. I've heard a few of those idiots in my time.
