Hi everyone, hoping to move to Dumaguete after our house sells. We are hoping that there is a good social life awaiting us. We both enjoy busy bars and good company. We have lived in Mexico and Thailand where there is a decent nightlife with loads of bars. is there a busy nightlife in Dumaguete
Just come to Dumaguete check into a cheap hotel and check out the place as all comments are only another persons opinion and what suits one does not necessary suit another.
Cebu City has a busy night life Dumaguete has good expat social groups, reasonably good selection of resturants and expat resto bars with live bands. But is quiet compared to Cebu City and Manila. Another option is Panglao Island in Bohol as hear there are many beach bars with music there..and you can walk to them along the beach.
The night life is not so busy. But there are always live bands performing. Daytime expect terrible traffic jams with a mix of cars, tricycles (I hate them), motorbikes and trucks. Outside Dumaguete not so bad.
Knowing the British idea of Bars and Clubs, there is absolutely zero chance you will find what it is you are looking for in Dgte city ( dont be fooled or dragged in by the city status, its far from a city) in terms of size or indeed what it offers the foreigner by way of entertainment/bars/clubs or public transport or ease of banking or shopping outside of hours, this town has more of a retirement mentality, no need to polish your shoes or slip on your high heels in this hell hole
Probably better to rent a place on the S side of Dumaguete. That way you have some good bars / restos and can get to Robinson's mall / Hypermart without having to drive thru the city centre, which gets really congested during the day.
If it is exciting nightlife you desire, I think you will quickly get bored in Dumaguete. You probably will want to check out some of the bigger cities, as mentioned above (Cebu, Manila, maybe even Bacolod)
Thanks for the replies, When I say busy, I actually mean are there a decent amount of bars that are relatively busy on the weekends with different types of music etc. Also, do the expats and local people actual go out at night. We are not dance on the table types, just people who like to go out and mix and have a few drinks and a laugh with other like minded people in the evening. We have lived in places where many of the expats just don't go out after dark. We currently live in Mexico which despite what is reported, is very safe, friendly and social. However, many of the expats are the happy hour crowd who get totally wasted by 7.30 pm then stagger home and lock the door. We love Mexico but want to also experience other things whilst we are still alive.
