God, 1/2 day. What a pain in the @ss. Do people who use balikbayan privilege also have to get an ECC after 6 months? One good thing about SRRV is that we never need ECC, no matter how little or often we leave the country.

Nope they are undocumented at immigration so no need until they do an extension after the 1 year privilege :cautious:

Or they can leave the country within that year, re-enter and their wives ask for a (new) BB Visa Waiver for the husband. In such a way they never need an EEC - but I will not be surprised to see changes with the BB soon(ish).

Now that is a good point, as it stands the law is, that the wife should have been out of the country for 1 year or more but the Rule has lapsed over the last few years, Should the Department of Tourism ( the BB stamp is issued on behalf of them) or Immigration decide to strictly enforce this rule that would put an end to what I guess we can call the Visa run regime, Always a grey Area this but as it is now, I for one, "would not Rock the Boat"

I have seen thus speculation before in this forum, ie that BB privileges (that have been in effect unchanged for at least 35 years) may be changing soon “I would not be surprised”. Well, after several months after reading this the first time there has not been any mention of this in the Star, the Enquirer or the Manila Bulletin or ABS-CBN. Furthermore, there is no basis given as to why you would not be “surprised”, you just say you would not be surprised. Well, guess what, I would not be surprised if my cat got pregnant. So what? I don’t care with my SRRV but why give needless worry to BB newcomers?

Well, you would be if your cat is a male.

Anyway: 1) If the BB changes then it is not going to stop people coming here - they will just use Tourist Visa or go the whole hog, if possible, to 13a or SRRV. 2) You make statements about people needing Php150k per month to live here, which I consider misleading (another member commented on your opinion "You generalized and made assumptions with a conclusion that all 3K a day would get you a life of just pickling your liver.") and so I think your opinions are more likely to cause hesitancy and concern to intended expats here than will mine.

WHAT BB changes? What are you talking about? Why do you change the subject? I will not let you off the hook. Either provide actual cites that actual changes are in process or even just being considered, or, admit that you are just making this up. You are, right? Just making it up, right?

Hello Jack, I seriously would like to know about any upcoming changes to the BB process that he is inferring. Several friends depend on it to live here long term. He hinted at changes before in a casual wa but, for people who depend on BB to stay here, this topic is not casual at all, in fact it is quite serious. The author hints at major BB changes as not being surprising to him with his apparent special insight. But the needle on my BS meter is pegged so I will not allow him to slink out by changing the subject.
