    hi everybody...
i'm thinking of buying a laptop on amazon usa and using amazon international shipping to deliver it, however, i'm concerned about the philippines import taxes, customs duties and fees.

has anyone imported a laptop from abroad? can you give me an idea what your philippines import taxes, customs duties and fees were?

i looked at this page but i'd have to take a nite class to fill in the form.

    thanks...

We did order some dog grooming stuff from Amazon; I think Amazon calculates the import fees already. You need to change your shipping address to Dumaguete City already. Here is an example quote:

whats wrong with buying one here, whats so special about an american one, save your self the grief and the aggro and all the hours on the laptop worrying about taxes and fees.........there is an apple store in robinsons. just because you paid all the taxes externally, customs here might hold it for additional fees, or it might make a nice birthday present

lol Overpriced trash running on out-of-date hardware.

Because you don't know what you are actually getting in the Philippines. There is so much fake Chinese garbage in the shops here you can't really be sure you are getting an original product. And you can absolutely forget about getting any type of legitimate warranty or return if the product is defective. People are willing to pay a premium for proper customer service/knowing their (relatively large) purchase is going to be a safe one. If the local electronics shops didn't charge 15-20% over the actual market value and then offer crap customer service/return policies maybe people would be more willing to go with them. Until then I can't really blame anyone for wanting to avoid their sh*t business practices.

Also, the chances of Customs holding it for additional fees is pretty slim. However, I've never shipped anything directly through Amazon. I have always used Johnny Air. Never had any issues with Customs.

You won't be charged additional fees if the actual Import Fees exceed the Import Fees Deposit we estimated. For items sold by Amazon Marketplace sellers, please check the seller's policies.

If the actual Import Fees are less than the Import Fees Deposit collected by us on your behalf, you'll automatically be refunded the difference to the payment method you used for the order
