Exactly, go to Valencia, DUMAGUETE, Negros Oriental (written as if it is a barangay of Dumaguete City, good luck finding that barangay) which is completely different than Valencia, Negros Oriental. Valencia has never been voted the best place to retire. The only place to be voted best place to retire in the area is Dumaguete City.
It is the Valencia up the hill from Dumaguete City I refer to and it WAS voted BEST place in the Philippines AND the whole world (from one end to the other!). Unless I dreamt it?
I think you did. Dumaguete has never been in the address line for Valencia, Negros Oriental. It's its own, very very terrible, thing. (That nobody should ever consider moving to.) And since you know I love sources, here is mine: https://www.forbes.com/pictures/fgmi45jlfe/no-5-dumaguete-philippines/#16dcfe446095 (Funny that the picture Forbes uses wasn't even taken in Dumaguete, and they also go on to call Dumaguete "beach front living". It's almost as if they did zero research and have absolutely no idea WTF they are talking about.) So, other than your dream, where is your source?
Thanks for that post. I think, because of that photo, is in my opinion, Forbes is full of B.S. journalism.
I wouldn't dismiss the entire magazine because of one writer that had to write a fluff piece for their website. That link is not even an "article", it is a small photo gallery with stock images that they used to bump up their traffic to increase their advertising revenue. Any idiot could have done the minimal amount of research that "writer" did in less than an hour. It has "intern" written all over it.
So, Bohol done, Mindanao too...time for Negros Oriental. Arriving tomorrow by boat, staying 4 days in a guesthouse in the central parts of Dumaguete. I will focus on a triangle Dumaguete - Valencia - Bacong trying to find the nicer spots for an eventual future here. What would be the best way to get around? Rent a taxi for the day? I set up a meeting with a real estate guy but him showing me around was not an option. Maybe if I wanted to buy something in the near future. Anyone up for a beer or 7? I'd be happy to get some "essential" info in exchange for a couple of rounds!
Cebu is so much nicer, many products available and things to do places to go. Baguio is really great, much cooler place to live, no a/c needed.
2) Dapitan is very nice and cheaper than Dumaguete, there is a large public beach with grey sand and not too far is the beautiful Dakak private beach and resort with white sand and clear water. Also lots of activities at Gloria de Dapitan. Very few foreigners live here, compared to Dumaguete. Also the port with ferries for Dumaguete is closed and the Dipolog airport is at 20 minutes only. The only problem is the Hospital (not too far too) but not so good compared to Siliman University Hospital in Dumaguete.
