A heads up for US on social security. The “are you still alive” form has arrived.

Got mine a month ago. Went to the Post Office to mail it back airmail. A bit of a shocker. They now use it like a registered service to get it there in 10 days or less. Price went way up, a little over 1400p. The plus side was it comes with a tracking number. I knew mine reached its final destination in Wilkes Barre. You can still send it cheaper through regular mail. Takes longer and you can't be sure if it gets there. I sure wish they would let us fill it in on a site and submit it.

I had a change of address recently I called S/S and gave them new update ...I am wondering if that will take care of not sending form back this time if I receive one

I received the form last week. Mailed it back via the Duma Philpost, registered mail for 125 peso (includes tracking). They said 3 to 4 weeks to reach USA.

What are the rules...a spouse claiming her son on her husbands social security benefits. The child isn’t the legitimate child of the husband and the child isn’t the step child.

The child either must be the biological child of the SS payee or legally adopted by same... to obtain benefits past 6 months the child must obtain US citizenship, be prepared as both routes are very expensive

If the child isn't the biological or legally adopted child of the husband and is accepting social security benefits on that premise, she will eventually have to repay that money when (not if) it gets discovered.

No, it will not. I had even been back in the US on a visit and I still had to give them the form, and, all they would do is send it to the Wilkes barre address on our behalf and not even guarantee that the office there receives it. Apparently receipt of the form must be entered into your record if you have a foreign address. Wife and US changed to a US residential address (son) later on and now for 2019, nothing to worry about.
