Being new to this area, my Filipina partner and I would like to socialize with other expat couples in Valencia/Dumaguete. Is anyone aware of any expat social groups or meetups? Thanks!
Not sure if there are any groups for couples, there weren't when I was there, although you will likely become friends with other couples and will end up doing things together. There is usually a group of men that meets at McD or other areas I believe. I used to belong to a group of ladies that meets for lunches on Fridays at various restaurants.
Welcome to the Forum and hope this related content thread helps. https://dumagueteinfo.com/board/threads/regular-expat-meetups-in-dumaguete.10334/#post-104373
Hi! From what I hear, there are many expats in Valencia and they usually go to these restos owned by fellow expats somewhere near the public park of the town. Or, you might want to join the Bisayan class which happens every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at Cafe Sofia, Tip Top Hotel (across Don Bosco School), 10:45 to 12:00 noon. You will be able to meet a few good expats who want to learn more about the local culture by cracking the Bisayan codes.
Andy's Private Garden on the beach in Mangnao is a popular hiding spot on Wednesdays for the Norwegian bunch and some of the wives. Lots of cold beer, wine, liquors etc. Simple food but reasonable and tasty.. I know a few members here who come for breakfast once in a while.. The resto and bar is right next to the beach. Always a breeze and quiet..
Private garden: - Never been closed as far as I remember, renovations a couple of years ago to some of the rooms, kitchen & main house maybe, but always had cold beer despite that. Gate is usually kept closed to keep undesirables & stray dogs out, as the in house German Shepherd is always ready for an unexpected meal. Unless, the owner has developed some form of teleporting his property to other locations, I'd imagine it's still on the beach.
