I question the mental health of any person that has more empathy for a dog than their fellow human. I think if I showed you a video of a woman being hacked to death with a machete by some monster cartel members and the same treatment of a dog you are going to resonate and have more empathy with the fear, desperation and pleas for mercy from the woman than you would with the dog's reaction. Anyone who thinks they have more empathy for dogs has lived a very sheltered life and has no experience with how horrible life can be for some people.

You think dogs are any better? There are plenty of dogs that have killed children for no reason other than the child being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The bad ones shouldn't affect our empathy for the good ones (humans or dogs). So, if you lost your empathy for the good ones you definitely have some mental problems and should seek out help.

The problem is that you appear to be placing non-human life on an equivalent plane or above to human life. Some people in an effort to equalize what they perceive as unfair treatment of animals overcompensate in favor of animals. Although it has been shown that some higher form animals are sentient and aware of their own sense of being, and some dogs are as intelligent as a 3 year old child, they simply do not have the same rights on this planet as humans. If the choice is human life vs a dog’s life, no, you do not have the right to overcompensate and favor the dog as some organizations like PETA might do. However, the sentient animal does respect to be treated in death “humanely”, a rather ironic term which means you treat it is if it were “human”. You kill animals that must be killed as painlessly as possible. Injection by a vet, or better, a bullet to the head. The human life is more important than the lives of these admittedly sentient beings. But treat them with compassion even in death. Killing them with the slow death of a poison is not moral especially for dogs who are universally recognized to be a friend and servile to man in most cases.

who said anything about losing empathy for the good ones? there are4 plenty of men and women who have killed a child for nor reason too, moreso than dogs. those men and women I would gladly choose the life of most dogs over. take for instance the life of a school shooter, you want i should feel more empathy for him over a street dog trying to survive?

i'll choose the dog as a freind, thanks.

Did i say that? I dont think i said that.

but i would place the life of most dogs above that of a child murderer or rapist.

i guess my point was, you cant generalize like that. I woud choose to save a good dog's life over that of a bad person, every time.
