If someone is found dead, identification, if possible, is confirmed by a living relative or other living person who knew the deceased. An expired or current passport might be used to contact a living relative or more likely an embassy contact who would contact a relative to confirm identity.

Come on now. I think it is blatantly obvious I wasn't saying or implying that. I don't think I need to explain the difference between an living person's immigration needs and requirements and a police investigation into an unidentified deceased body...but if you really need me to break it down Barney style for you I can.

All I was pointing out is that just because an ID of some type is expired, that it cannot be used for some purpose. It can still be used as identification, the information contained in it is not rendered invalid. You may not be able to use it for the purpose you initially obtained it, as in the case of a passport, but it still has its uses.

If it was obvious why did you feel the need to reply? You really get sanctimonious at times.
You had a post not to long ago about what happens during Martial Law and how you could leave and go to an area with very few or no expats. You said you have the means. Why wait? Do you feel that you are that important to the expat community here, that we need you?

Ok, as far as the stamp issue is concerned. I went to the local BI here in Dumaguete and posted what I learned. There still seemed to be some speculation. Understandable.

I sent a message on Facebook to the BI in Manila.

Surprise. I got a reply. They said just present the old passport with the stamp and there would be no problem on departure.

I imagine if you are in Manila or maybe Cebu and can get the transfer stamp done, then get it. But it appears from my inquiries it is not an absolute requirement.

    Hope this helps.

For the US, when I got a new passport they returned the old one but destroyed it enough to make it look “expired”. They chop a slice out of it too, just enough to really deface the SRRV sticker inside. For sure I will ensure that my sticker is transferred onto my new passport before I travel. In my experience, Phils Customs is often friendly and engaging as you say (just show the old passport) but not always. Legally, all the agent only needs to accept us a current stamp or sticker in a current passport more than 6 months before expiration, regardless if what the FB contact, who may or may know what he/she is talking about, said.

Everything is different here I guess. When the Embassy returned my old passport there were two paper punch holes in it, never touched the original 13A visa. But I get your point.

Huh? Why are you so concerned with where I live? :cautious:

lol No, but you seem quite interested in things I have said here. You're a funny guy, wish I could remember some of your posts so I know what crawled up your rear recently but I just can't seem to recall anything of importance you have said or any previous interactions we have had.

Left Manila for Singapore today. Took the old passport (with the original visa stamp in it 13A) and the new passport. Presented both to Immigration, processed with no questions or instructions to get the stamps transferred in the future.

    That's pretty definitive to me.
