All my life I have lived through all these flu scares, starting with swine flu in 1982 where we had forced vaccinations in the US. None of them ever turned into a worldwide pandemic but they sure kept the vax industry in business. The last flu epidemic was in 1918, way before my time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree that there is no need to panic - and panic is not everyone's response anyway to a given bad situation. I have a very deep knowledge about disease, especially viruses (which I have been interested in from the age of 12), but at this point I wear no mask and have made no preparation to isolate myself. It is likely this Cornavirus will be contained - but we cannot be sure at this stage. But when new viruses arise we should take it seriously - assume the best but prepare (even if only thinking about options) for the worst. But certainly there seems no need here to take vigorous action at this time. In risk terms, we are more at risk today from an errant driver!
Get excited or not it's up to you. Personally I will be cautious. HEADZ UP NegOr Just now · “DOH: We also coordinated with Region 7. As a member of the global population your chances of developing this virus are 0.0000017482%. Dying from it 0.0000001137%. Statistically you have more chance of being crushed by a meteor or having your testicles chewed off by a rat whilst sleeping. So put the kettle on. You ain't gonna dies just yet
Right. The 1918 Spanish Flu was different; that one got out of control. It reduced the average lifetime of a US resident by 19 years to 39.5 years old and affected young adults. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not sure where you got that figure from. Your number would give 17 cases in 10 million. In China there are about 6000 symptomatic cases from a population of 10 million that have been reported in the last week. I don't have a lot of trust in China and what they tell the rest of the world. It caught my attention that the day they announced the virus they were able to identify the source as a market. How long did they know about this problem? The fact that China has shut down all transportation in/out of some cities speaks volumes. Some airlines have cancelled all flight in/out of China.
I still dont think this is too much to worry about at this time. But people are already panic buying in dumaguete for face masks and most places are out of stock. The people here are a bit different and panic about these sort of things quickly.
I am guessing the risk of dying from electrocution by a kettle is higher than being killed by the coronavirus or being crushed by a meteor - so it this, in fact, bad advice? Please reply urgently as I am dying (see!) for a cuppa.
