i'm curious what birds are eating your tomato plants. i've never had birds bother my garden plants or even fruits like papaya in this area.

You and me both...they were cut off middle of the stem and the leaves and top half were gone; they were doing well when I left so I have to trust the wife as she said it was birds and she's seen it happen before.

Unfortunate as those were my favorite tomatoes (grape variety I can't get in the PI); really nice either to eat off the vine or in a cucumber salad. The wife direct sowed some other cherry tomato variety in the raised beds so we'll see how they do.

She has enough netting left over from the future quail pen to use in the raised bed area. Not too fine of a netting to keep out pollinators.

Here is a cactus plant next door to where I am staying in PR; looks to be a very well established plant and, although a different variety of cactus, it does make me optimistic that I can grow cactus in the PI.

next time you get your favorite tomato.. or any tomato that has seeds.. cut small 1/4 inch slices.. bury them about a half inch below the dirt.. water.. and they will grow tomato plants.. lots of them. will need to thin out..

Sorry to hear about your seedlings.

I have had some tops eaten too, but not too many.

Other then that had leaf miners that I killed.

I am using Aspirin every two weeks to strengthen the plants.

Given away a bunch of plants now as I had way too many, hope those that got them know what to do.

I grow in rice sacks, those thin pot bags and I made upside down pots for a few too.

    Diversified one might say.

Guess that my cherries will give fruit in not too long as I have flowers already.

Going to transplant the beef tomato plants in larger sack/pots in a week's time.

I got plenty of seeds guys..hint hint

Here are a couple pics of some red okra plants that were started from seed. The wife transplanted them in her garden area in front of the house and has had a number of neighbors ask what they were as they hadn't seen this variety before.

She planted 30 okra plants and they are flowering and fruiting already, like our pepper plants I think she will be giving many fruits to family and neighbors.

Okra is one of my favorite green veggies but also think the flowers are gorgeous.

That's really cool that you are doing well with tomatoes...I've only had luck with the cherry varieties of tomatoes; obviously not the grape variety the birds clipped off this time, but the wife did start some other cherry tomato seeds. Still waiting on those to germinate.

We'll have to try the larger varieties again...just need to get some seeds.

Years ago I tried the upside down bags (purchased) for tomatoes and they did very well and were pretty interesting to see. We do have some grow bags I purchased in the US that we will try out and hang off of the fence.

    No need for bags.

These are old vinagre containers, sold @ 10 piso per container in Duma

    I have seeds, plenty.
