COVID 19 - As of 17 March

Since I'm sorta OCD about organization, it seems 90% of the my original "..as of 4 Feb" is now obsolete (and most of that by feb 14), so I thought I'd start anew, keeping it in Dumaguete. You can stick with the old postings but I suggest starting NEW. You might repeat some of your good latest postings, like the Negros Oriental self quarantine and travel rules .., I'll try to repeat some if you don't.. Stay well, stay outta crowds. The most unclear parts are:
how fast it transmits
if you are infectious before showing symptoms
how long it takes for symptoms to show and how long before you get well
and the NON scary part is, remember, about 99% get well and most have mild symptoms...
Biggest thing is STAY OUTTA CROWDS.

How fast it transmits? - depends on what you
mean. One thing I heard is that in some countries cases will double every few days. That means it is transmitting fast within the population. But do you mean how long you need to be near someone with the disease to be infected? That depends on lots of factors - including the mode of transmission, distance apart between giver and receiver, your immunity and other factors.
If you are infectious before showing symptoms: Yes. In China an asymptomatic person (so this describes a person not showing symptoms at that time) spread the virus to 5 family members. Also, UK scientists have confirmed that it is spread by people not showing symptoms. In my opinion, not enough research has been done on the number of asymptomatic infections within the world (I have no idea why not!) - and China would be an excellent place to find out.
How long it takes for symptoms to show?: Symptoms usually appear within 5 days but can take 14 days. Every individual has differences in natural immunity and possibly (mostly unlikely) from acquired immunity due to have encountered similar coronaviruses in the past. There will be no one answer to fit everyone.
How long before you get well? Same answer as above. Depends on your immunity and general state of health. Some have reported feeling only mildy ill and being okay after a few days, whilst others go through a longer period of debilitation, sometimes ending in death.

 

Glimmers of hope:

Any cure is important, even if takes too much time to achieve for this current outbreak, because this virus could become annual - the common cold is caused by a cornavirus (plus many other types of virus) and we know why it is called 'common'.

This is very good as current drugs don't need testing for safety - only to see if they work on the virus.

"Chloroquine, an anti-malarial drug, and HIV-suppressing combination lopinavir/ritonavir have both reportedly shown promising results in early human tests.

Researchers went as far as to say the medications made the virus “disappear” in patients."

I have also read of a drug used in treating rheumatoid arthritis being of possible use, but I checked it out and the mode of treatment (for RA, perhaps will be different for the coronavirus) involves being infused with it once a month.

There is also a vaccine produced using a portion of the virus already being tested on human volunteers. But proving the efficacy and safety of a new vaccine is a long process.

Suspension of all Flight Operations due to COVID-19

ALL CEBU PACIFIC AND CEBGO FLIGHTS WILL BE CANCELLED from March 19 until April 14, 2020, in support of government regulations on COVID-19.

The Philippine government recently implemented Enhanced Community Quarantine over Luzon, and similar directives across various provinces in the country. We are ensuring the safety of our passengers and operations teams, in support of stricter quarantine measures, land travel restrictions and regulations in place.

The last day of operations prior to our temporary suspension of flights will be on March 18, 2020 wherein Cebu Pacific will operate the following flights:

Manila-Bangkok-Manila

Manila-Tokyo (Narita)-Manila

Manila-Osaka-Manila

Manila-Nagoya-Manila

Manila-Ho Chi Minh-Manila

Manila-Singapore-Manila

Thank you for sharing. I think in these times where it can be a challenge to get current and accurate information, we should be careful to be accurate with what we share. While it's important to follow the order, it does not specify that you will be arrested if found outside during curfew just a vague mention of enforcement without specifics, which may or may not include arrest. Also there are exceptions worth reading in the order as well, for those who must travel somewhere during curfew hours.
