I can not agree with the 30% and would like to know where you came up with the 30% figure?
Well if most of those leaking hoses are after the meter. The people that is connected to it has to pay for the wasted water. I do know that most of the water line leeks are not fixed. Just raped with a strip of inter tub. Typical Filipino repair job.:rolleyes: While I was growing up in the states it was called Afro Engineering, when I moved to Alaska I discovered that the Alaska natives were even better at Afro Engineering. Now that I live here I really don't know who is better at Afro Engineering the Alaska natives or the Filipino. I have been known to do some Afro Engineering my self in my life time. :sneaky::hilarious::muted: You got to do what you got to do, when you do not have the parts to to it right.

Hey guy, I'll tell you my analysis method if you'll tell me what your best guess for leakage is first, given the rest of your comment. No matter which side of the meter the leak is, it still reduces the amount of water available, multiplied by some 10,000 households (34,852 pop).

After a heavy down pour The water is so filthy its impossible to see through it. Buying potable water is the only solution.

"THERE WOULD NEVER BE A WATER SHORTAGE."
Really? The two major outages I evperanced were caused by land slides!

Not according to Valencia's Water District. I would like to let all you kind folks know that I am not totally ignorant to the operation of a water district. In my younger days, I worked for the city of Spring Lake NC. Water District. So you see I do have experience as to the going on in a water district.
All most forgot they are called "Water Mains"

My best GUESS would have been about 5%. After a little
research of Valencia's web-site. It appear that the leakage is more like 13%. (see attachments).

How about 18,566. (see attachments). Now you were going to tell us your analysis method. I would like very much to hear it.

You are sure right about the muddy water. The first in line is a 5 Micron filter, coming into my system, I have to change that filter at least every week and after a good rain, every day. That is why I filter the city's water twice first with a 5 Micron and then with a 1 Micron. Muddy water works fine if you are flushing your commode with a bucket.:hungover:

Hey GP. My method was WAG. (wild @ss guess).. My guesses based on wandering down various small concrete and dirt roads off the main roads and seeing leaks running down streets, and seeing tape-wrapped black hoses leaking water (the big pipes ("mains") don't leak much) and then extrapolating to all the other streets. I'm guessing a compromise around 20% is closer, since I'm not sure how they would measure the 13%. (and if they measured the leaks, why don't they fix them. Each leak is probably less than 50 pesos for a semi-permanent fix)... Doing rough estimates on water amounts used in a household, compared to what's running down the streets or soaking into the ground got me to 30%, probably high. I've also seen 2m x 2m x 2m reservoirs with tape-wrapped distribution headers coming out, a good gallon per minute right there for each header. My craving for exactness declines in retirement.

Also, the number of "households" in Valencia at 18,566 with a population of 35,852 (what years?) gives an average household of 1.93 people, which to me appears very low for the Philippines, unless 18,566 is the number of "accounts," including business and other operations. I'm also guessing that the Valencia water system is a lot more porous than North Carolina ??? Oh, and I'll be the first to concede that a landslide could cut off water. PS do you have a link for the nice graphics ??

Guesses based on a 31 year career of designing, building and maintaining ships, most of which involved piping systems or the design and building of marine sewage treatment plants.

No, No, please don't concede <grin>. I was actually hoping someone would question my analysis. I do think I was high at 30%, we can compromise at 20 or so, at least we were in the same ballpark and can b*tch about overly high leakage, which should be in the low single digits. The problem with leaks is they run 24 hours a day, usage much less time...

Lookin for your graphics on a website. I hope you didn't make the same mistake I always make?
DCWD is Davao City Water, not Dumaguete
VCWD is Valencia, Mindanao, not Valencia Negros Oriental....

I don't believe for one minute it has anything to do with leakages, they just turn it off !

When we first got here, over four years ago, the water was off from midnight to 4 am, "for conservation" was the rumor..
