Not big fan of those thermal scanners. They had one at Silliman when I took the wife in a few weeks ago, fever when we left the house was 38.5. I asked to he have the scanner person tell her what it read when we got there 5 minutes later, she was told she was ok, 36.2. Wife had the symptoms of the COVID, sore throat, high fever and a little cough. Tonsillitis. Symptoms may be similar without the same cause.

The person taking the temperature was a security guard? Right? If it was a nurse then that is down right scary. At 32 degrees I'd think your wife was dead and headed towards ambient temperature.

No, it was a hospital employee, maybe a nurse in scrubs. But yes, I corrected it to 36.2, sorry.

Actually it seems many Philippine PUI who die are later showing as having been negative for Covid-19. This is either poor testing or many non-Covid19 patients have similar symptoms.

comparing case numbers here and in countries where the numbers of tests carried out are an order of magnitude,or two, larger, doesnt really say anything. We will see in a few weeks how well the virus has been really contained here. Also chinas numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt, they obviously are very interested in selling this as a big win for their f*cked up political system.

The Philippines has one big advantage over most of Europe and large land-mass countries - much easier to shut down travel when all you need to do is stop flights and ferries.

Here is a picture that was posted of a local temperature testing checkpoint. Note that they are fully equipped with two "under tongue" digital thermometers, and no alcohol. But at least they do have a good supply of coca cola.
