Have you ever wanted something sweet to go with your morning coffee or as a snack. The wife brought two bags a customer had given her and I examined them with a critical eye as to the ingredients and what part of China did they come from. I was surprised to read on the package that they were from Ritz Cracker here in the Philippines. Opening the package and taking a handful I discovered the "biscuit" was full of air with a small dollop of colored icing that was sweet but not a hint of flavor or bitterness. Beyond the first "biscuit" I was hooked and have looked and looked for a source since we can't get Shopee due to the lockdown. If you find these delights don't buy them all, leave some for us! shakey aka John
Sound a bit like the 'Iced Gems' I used to eat as a child - can also be found here as 'Star Gems'. They can be purchased in many stores throughout the Philippines. In the spirit of comradeship in these difficult times, I am going to share mine with you. But due to quarantine it has to be in pictures!
OK but "Iced Gem" Connoisseurs say that brand is an imitation and is not made by Ritz Cracker in the Philippines. Also where in Dumaguete can we buy this imitation to try for ourselves?
True - they are not as good as the way I remember 'Ice Gems' but they will do! 'Star Gems' ARE made by Ritz Crackers according to the packet. I am told that in Dumaguete they can be bought at Lee Plaza.
I found places in the Manila area on Shopee that has 12 individual packs in one bag for P99 or less. I ordered several and the shipping was only P105 no matter how many packs you ordered and COD is an option. These are the original Khong Guan Iced Gem Biscuits made by Ritz. https://shopee.ph/Iced-Gem-Biscuits-(12-packs)-i.259227515.5132949181 shakey aka John
