It seems that Disabled Veterans are getting partially shafted after all with the $1200 checks being sent out. While we may qualify its not automatic after all even though numerous Vet groups and Republicans sent in letters requesting or more so demanding that disabled vets get taken care of automatically.

So while we don't need to file e-taxes specifically we do need to fillout an online form with the IRS it seems which while seems simple doesn't really seem to cater well to Americans living abroad.

This says 04/03 but was updated April 10th so it is current.

Doesn't read like they are shafted at all.
You have to go to the website just like anyone else that has non-taxable income/doesn't have to file a tax return. It's not some outrageous thing that is being done to veterans, you have to go to a website and enter some information just like everyone else in that financial situation. I find it a bit odd that these, generally conservative, groups would be complaining about about a handout and asking for special treatment. A bit hypocritical...and all because they want to save a few clicks.

If they have to mail it to you oversees, I imagine it would be very interesting. You probably get your VA benefits direct deposited, but does that carry over to the IRS. If you don't file because you have no tax liability, I hope they ask for direct deposit information.
On the other hand, the idea is to help people living in the US and stimulate the US economy. I'm not sure how much stimulation is going to happen from people living overseas. I welcome enlightenment.

If you didn't file in 2018 or 2019 (and had them direct deposit it in the most recent year) I believe they have to mail it out. There are also income restrictions on the handout based off of those filling years...even if you are currently unemployed making no money. Not sure what the amounts are, I think 70-80k for individuals and double that for dual income households. Either way, I won't be getting squat from the government. To everyone that doesn't know how to manage money and have 3 months of emergency funds saved up, you're welcome...glad my tax money could help protect you from your own ignorance and poor life decisions.

And the beat goes on. We worked and paid high taxes so the government could pay the military and civilians working in the useless war in Afghanistan.

I read that recipients of Social Security will not need to apply separately. Those who receive it in a bank account, that is.

Yes, it is one of two exemptions but is there a reason for that? Is SS more closely tied to the IRS than the VA? Could databases for SS be accessable by the IRS while the VA databases are not? Do you really want the IRS to have its powers and oversight extended to military databases because people are simply too lazy or proud to go to a website and enter on their information?

If you are too lazy to simply go leave your banking information or address on a website to be given a no-strings-attached $1,200 handout...well, I suppose you don't really need it that bad and aren't all that hungry or desperate. These special little snowflake types are of no use to the world and deserve nothing as they would likely just blow it on non-critical sectors with products that will in no way improve their lot in life or make their lives any easier.

A thoughtful post. Furthermore, as you intimated previously, the U.S. taxpayer, by way of the Congress, has authorized stimulus money for the U.S. economy. [The Philippines has its own program.] I for one will transfer my payment to someone who will spend it in the States. Okay, a relative, but whatever.

Much more honor and integrity in what you are doing than what these whining and disgraceful vet groups that forgot the core values the military tried to pound in their heads are doing. They volunteered to serve their country and possibly sacrifice their lives while doing so but now the cowards are afraid of sacrificing 5 minutes of their time on a computer from the safety of their homes and crying like little b*tches about how unfair it all is. Completely pathetic, I would be ashamed to be a member of any of these groups. They need to man up and stop being an embarrassment to the real men and women who served their country.

    Shouldn't be a big deal.

The agency expects to release an online tool on its website by the end of the week that helps people track the status of their stimulus checks. The tool will let people follow the scheduled payment date for either a direct deposit or mailed check.

Additionally, the IRS launched another tool allowing people who normally don’t file taxes to provide their bank account information to get their payment by direct deposit versus waiting for a mailed check. The additional feature is unavailable if your payment has already been scheduled for delivery.

Better do it quickly if you live in another country.
