best german style bread you find in Why Not at the boulevard, fresh baked every day - they have imported Pumpernickel, from time to time. also recommended a french bakery near Silliman university. a french guy is living in Bacong baking fresh croissant with real butter and also bread, absolutely fantastic taste, just ask around in the area.

Hi all.You know where best bakers are at now that we write 2020?

The French bakery in Bacong seems to not be run by a Frenchman anymore.

    Sourdough bread is the best

    Thanks breadlovers

Ok, will look for that. The one called: French bakery is no good. No French baker would allow that type of quality leaving it's doors.

Looking now at Google maps, it seems to be same place.

Baguette you could kill someone with.

    Sad, but I am serious

    I don't know.
The 'French Bakery' and 'La French Choclatine' are one and the same. Located on the highway at the front of the Octagon Sports Bar. Sadly, I have to agree with you that the bread is generally of a poor standard, if eaten fresh from the oven it's nice but once it has been standing a while it's very solid like a bloody house brick. An hour after they have been cooked the baguettes could be used as a truncheon, lol. On the plus side though, some nice cakes and pastries to be had and the staff are always friendly.

Unfortunately I have to agree. I tried a few of their breads there and I was not happy wih the quality. Especially the Swiss Butterzopf was useless. See pic how it should look like. But I like their location and I go there sometimes for coffee and a croissant (quite ok). Octagon is just next door for a beer after the coffee.[IMG]

The German bakery in Valencia you saw is long gone. It was Ludwig's German Bread and it was very good. He branched out to Dumaguete and sold the Valencia location to locals who worked there. They promptly ran it into the ground. But the Dumagueete branch is still in business (I think.) There is a Facebook page under "Ludwig's German Bread & Snacks" Located between the 7-Eleven and M LHuillier across the Jose Romero Road from Hypermart. Call ahead because they may be closed due to the COVID lockdown, and they bake very limited batches. You may want to ask what is available and see if they will hold it for you. Nice people, too.
