Does anyone know a method humane or otherwise to get rid of lizards or discourage them from coming into the house.
We have a problem with the small gecko type and also larger ones using our house as a toilet, they poop and pee everywhere and one night when i was sitting in the living room one even shat on my head from the roof above me, some might see the funny side of that but it is the issue of our kitchen being contaminated that we are concerned about as i don't really know what would happen if we consumed some of it by accident.
I know they are part of the food chain as they eat insects but nothing seems to eat the lizards except our cats and dogs but its not often not easy for them to do this as the lizards spend most of their time upside down on the roof.
I know i would be wasting my time asking any of the local people we know about this as one day i cornered a really big one inside the house, i tried for a long time to shoo it out the open door but it just kept running and hiding behind or under the furniture, so i ended up killing it and our helpers looked at me like they had never seen that done before.

Those larger "tukos" are filthy pests inside the house. I moved to a new place in part because of the same problem where I had previously lived (in Talay). While I was there I would either ask maintenance staff to come in and kill it, or if nobody was around to help, shoot it down from the ceiling with an air soft gun. Inevitably another one would just move in. Same issue - crapping all over the floor, kitchen surfaces, even on myself or my guests. I'm fine with them outside but in the house they are disgusting.

I call in my killer dogs and then I try to get the pests close to the floor for the dog to get them. The Doberman is the only one that will eat the filthy things. All the Filipinos say that killing one will cause BAD LUCK! My reply is I guess my dogs are in for a hell of a lot of bad luck. The Doberman thinks they are "Snakky Snakky Time" and a protein boost. The last big fight the Pit-bull and Rottweiler got into was over how will get the tuko, the tuko LOST. Doberman was enjoying a snakky while watching the fight.:blackeye:

My wife says, "you cannot get the lizard except you kill". However, if I kill one it has to be a secret mission, as it is frowned upon by management.
I have had moderate success in some rooms by eliminating any food, insects, supply by spraying and sealing windows and doors, holes for A/C, electrical, water, etc. Spray Baygon and clean outside the windows and doors also to keep insects away from them. No insects usually results in fewer to no lizards. I am assuming you have western style ceilings. Even so I have never been able to totally eliminate them. They are in the same class as karaoke and roosters. The filipinos don't notice them. I did find some things on the internet that I am going to try.
" 1. Coffee. Balls made of coffee and tobacco mix are ideal to get rid of lizards. ...
    2. Naphthalene Balls. (mothballs) Place some naphthalene balls around your home, in every drawer, cupboard, or corner.

Coffee and tobacco are ok. I'm not sure I want to smell mothballs all the time. How do you smell mothballs anyway? Hold them up by the wings?

Lizard balls may also scare them away, if they are smart enough to get the message.

When I was experiencing the pooping tukos, I was told to try placing egg shells near locations where they frequent. The egg shells were meant to signal "occupied territory", so the theory went. I was also told that a couple of open beer cans in the room can keep them away. Neither worked. At least in my case, it was a losing battle. The house had a native style roof and very high ceiling. No stopping them from getting in.

They also don't take kindly to roach poison, but you need to douse them pretty good to be effective. Just be prepared for a possible surprise laying around later if they don't manage to escape the house before kicking the bucket as it takes time to work through the system.

You can also get sticky paper to trap them if you prefer something more humane.

    Yeah, F those nasty things.

You could try the roach killer sold in the back of comic books when I was a kid. True story: Advertised in the back of a comic book as a 100 per cent guaranteed never fail roach killer. Send 50 cents plus postage to order. Fellow bought one and it came in about a week. Package contained two 6 inch pieces of 2x4 labeled "A" and "B". Instructions contained said, "Place roach on board "A" and slap smartly with board "B". It might work for lizards, I don't know.
I forgot to mention also that cinnamon works well to repel ants. The ant powder at Tops and Bottoms is the best but in a pinch cinnamon will stop ants from coming in . They will not cross it. I don't know of anything that will stop lizards like that but some say garlic does.

Lizards don't like ants anyway but a good spray with Baygon ( or other) will get rid of Insects and it is the insects that the Lizards are after and let's remember that nigh on everything is in the food chain and that is what life is all about, Lizards are part of life here, Love it or loathe it. :bag:

I understand a Tokko can be a pita in the house, especially because they can be really noisy. I really dont mind the smaller Geckos at all.

Baygon etc is really not something to use lightly. If you ever sprayed it on a cockroach and watched what happened, you know why. Especially in places where food is handled or that are frequented by kids, spraying any kind of insect killing chemicals is a big no in my book. Vendors and manufactors may want you to believe otherwise, but nobody can tell me that soemthing that kills a roach near instantly is not harmful to humans.
