I'd say "very friendly" would describe most people in Dumaguete I've met. This place is great. However, even if Superman, Captain America, or Jesus was driving a tricycle, it would be out of place in modern infrastructure. They are hard to get around because they are as wide as a small car, with none of the safety features, and 3% of the power. A tricycle should be illegal to drive between areas, just due to the hazard they create, but apparently they aren't. I completely understand why someone would feel the need to operate one, I just don't get why they are allowed to. Most would think a child operating his electric power wheels vehicle on the highway is wrong and I view these vehicles in the same light.

Even if they fulfill a needed service they have devolved into a pack of "I don't care about any vehicle but me" on our city streets... They do not possess adequate lighting, brakes, mirrors and other safety equipment and the drivers operate with impunity as they do U turns whenever they feel the need and stop for passengers without any signal .... They definitely have a place but should be diminished by half and strictly supervised by the appropriate government agency

    There... I said it LOL

I'm sure that used to be said about Manila's highways as well. I like the charm of this place a lot. Lovely countryside, amazing people, and excellent beaches are quickly forgotten when a V-Hire, passing a tricycle, is run off the road by a bus. People can examine that situation all they want and recommend speed limit reductions to 4kph, but the root cause is the tricycle.

Speeder....always the speeder, right? You do realize that the tricycle is going quite fast in contrast to someone that is walking, right? The fellow that is walking because he can't afford a tricycle most likely thinks the same way you appear to, unless you're trolling. From your point of view, we should all just walk. Do you walk, or do you ever ride in one of these fancy metal conveyances? You're an excellent gatekeeper, but your logic just doesn't hold up.

I know you post with a high degree of sincerity - when I first moved to the Philippines I saw so many areas of improvement which would push the country forward into at least the 1960s (education, land reform, inheritance, inclusion of foreigners, divorce laws, road infrastructure and traffic management, just to name a few!).

Then I thought - "WTF, not my country" and decided to go with all the downsides just to enjoy the upsides. If ever the downsides weigh too heavily then I will hop on a plane and move (btw, anyone interested in relocation - I know from research quite a few countries which are possible contenders, many leading to citizenship and special privileges).

In almost all the areas I saw as needing reform, I really don't care anymore. Not my country, not my mess, not my tragedy.

I suspect 99% of the readers here don't really care whether any individual likes or dislikes trikes, but they are part of the city, so let's stick to exchanging useful information that's helpful to many shall we........?

Posting again, not in any way on topic, and certainly not in response to my questions. I understand you now.

I understand that outlook. Many people find it hard to have empathy when they aren't personally effected. I happen to have helped with paying the hospital bill for the only survivor of the wreck I was talking about and having met the young man, I feel his life is as important as the tricycle driver's. I come from an organization that says, "See something, say something" so my apologies if I say too much.

I completely understand why your text is more important than mine. Thank you for gatekeeping.
