I know how much expats get a little bit disgruntled when too many newbies hit the scene. I live in a small privileged country where tourism is the main source of income , and sometimes we are happy to see them go.
However, after the covid crisis, businesses here are desperate to see them return.
I wonder if the expat community will be pleased to see a return to the hustle and bustle , as fears of decreasing property prices may affect the investments they made.
Will others be pleased with the expectation of cheaper rents, or the fall of the peso against their pension from other countries.

Why would you ask? Ex pats will live through this and the crisis you refer to is world wide. We all go down together if things go arse up. You seem to be everywhere.

Yes we will get through it, I agree. I hate to see people suffer though.

With unemployment numbers soaring to record highs I wonder when people will be able to afford to hop on flights to travel overseas. I think the tourism industry is going to suffer for a very long time.

    I don't know.
Yes, and there will be a significant impact simply because people's habits have changed. This pandemic will have gone on so long that people will have adapted to a new normal behavior that does not include traveling and going out so much. As people have adapted and become satisfied using Zoom and other tools for online family conferencing they will not feel the need to travel as much.

I have noticed that I do not feel the urge to go out to dinner as much now. I have become more accustomed to eating at home. I see others are this way too. When I do go out the restaurants have much fewer customers.

Same here. I have been learning to cook and have found that most things I'm making come out tasting much better (and cheaper no less) than I get at restaurants. The only thing I really miss is a challenging game of billiards.

I just wonder if humans will 'revert to type' when the crisis is over. I think currently most people are scared to go out and that is understandable.

Give a few weeks or months and I expect everyone will be out and enjoying happier times.
