I heard they are searching for someone with bulging pockets to try to find the 300 million project study money.. A little bird told me also that Burger King will still open there before Christmas as the land is going to be a lot cheaper in the next few weeks as politicians unload their parcells.
The Philippines is in a recession, could be that's why it's shelved, and all those people who have sold their land for a pittance!
The new airport from what I understand was supposed to begin after the Bohol airport was completed. That was somewhere around 2 years ago. Covid or recession had very little to do with 'shelving' this project.
Bohol airport plans started way back in 2001 maybe longer, I was going to buy land there until I heard the rumors (don't like noise) specially planes.
I did wonder about the noise aspect of the new airport - at Sibulan there is a short route in/out over the airport itself and then immediately to the sea but at Bacong surely there would have been very many homes under the flight paths. I can't imagine anyone living in the area is too disappointed in losing the airport.
I really dont see why Dumaguete has to move the airport. If they want s longer striip, extend. If the landing area to the west is a problem because of the trees. Buy the land. Its called in other countries, compulsory purchase. The landings and take offs over the ocean are the most used so extending there is obvious really. And it would prove to be the cheaper aaoption as well. D Modernising the airport would not be that difficult either, although in my opinion having flown in and out from there since 2001 it handles the traffic quite well.
