Our son is at Montessori and now in Week 7 of Grade 7 online/modular learning. They have an online session with teachers each morning, much as described by Pompolino, then it's up to pupil and parents to ensure the weekly module is finished by Friday pm to exchange for the next week module. Depending on your child's motivation (our's has little - mother & son just had another bout of nagging and tears), this can be a time-consuming and stressful exercise compared to dropping them off at school and letting the teachers get on with it, because of the potential for distractions at home.

Reliable internet connection and ability to go to the school to exchange modules on a strict timetable is important.

On the whole it's going fairly well, although there's yet to be any feedback from teachers on performance. I never was any good at algebra.

    I don't know.
The President has said all along that he will not allow in-class school until the children and teachers are all vaccinated. On-line or modular is too much of a project and extra expense to get it to all the children. My guess is that they will again postpone it until after the newly proposed Russian vaccine being available by December. How long to produce enough of it for everyone and who will fund it will bring further delays. My heart breaks for the children who are desperately wanting to be back to class and busily focused on moving ahead in life and getting some normalcy back. My American friends have already started sending their kids back to public schools where many are in conflict about that.

Hi words were, I think that he will open schools for classes '...once a vaccine is available'. Online/modular learning is postponed until 5th October to allow schools and parents to gear up. Many will not, of course. Some parents may never be able to. There was quite a lot of pressure to start on 24th August, which was clearly stupid, but 5th October now seems quite precise. We'll see. The way I look at it (selfishly I suppose) is that for every week my lad completes he's a week ahead of all the others. Be interesting to see how that pans out with the school year dates, which have just been released, as his school will be 3 full months in front even if the others do start in early October. I'm aware of some other privates that have announced they are still reopening on 24th August.

Private schools seem to be suffering a great deal in terms of enrollment relative to the previous school year. Deped announced today that enrollment for private schools is currently at 27%, whereas overall (including public schools) enrollment is at 77%.
My take on this is that any private school that has relatively high fixed expenses (mortgages, overhead) will be toast if things stay as they are for too long, whereas public schools will be ok for now, but overburdened with too many students as soon as the Covid misery subsides.
Many teachers in private schools, already underpaid in normal times and motivated only by the prospect to find employment in a public school after gaining adequate experience, will be pulling their hair out by now.

I was teaching online classes here from March to the end of June this year. My experience was that, at first, the kids are really enthusiastic and motivated, as it's something different and quite exciting. But, their enthusiasm is quickly replaced by apathy. The quality and frequency of assignments noticeably declined as time went by. By the end of the 10 weeks, is was hardly worth the effort.

And these are kids that are all intelligent, hard working, and have the full support and encouragement of their parents. I dread to think what it would be like if the kids were lethargic, ill-disciplined, and/ or without good parenting!

Our school starts Monday. We initially decided to go online but will switch to modular so we, and our boy, can establish an environment and schedule to adjust to the “new”. He has been doing Kuman worksheets so should be okay. Personally. I wish face-to-face would begin Monday, along with soccer.

I have to adjust the numbers in my previous post in this thread. I mistakenly thought those numbers were very recent, it turns out they are more than a month old. Current numbers have the enrollment in private schools at 1.5 million children, or 37%, and overall enrollment at just below 80%. This means that sofar a total of around 4 million children have not been enrolled for the new school year. A saddening number indeed.

In a small sample, We have friends switching from private to public or different lower cost private. Hopefully, face to face can restart in January and a successful vaccine from wherever available. I am optimistic.

I shudder to think just what sort of vaccine the Philippines will buy and not only that, how much it is going to cost. For a vaccine to be effective, a high number have to be protected by it and with the huge population ofpooor people in the Philippines with barely enough to buy their daily bread I suspect this will turn out to be a disaster for the Philippines.
