Hello everybody! I joined this forum because my family is looking at moving from Australia to Dumaguete, in particular Valencia. Hopefully soon, once Covid is contained and travel restrictions lifted. I have joined this group hoping to find information and possibly meet some people when we arrive. My Husband joined this forum last year when we spent some time in Negros. I am Filipina and spent most of my life in Cebu but the last 6 years in Austraila were i met my wonderful husband. I have bought and sold real estate for over 30 years and feel certain that the current Valencia property values are in a bubble about to burst. Therefore, if you buy Valencia real estate at this time, you will more than likely never fully recover your cash investment. My advice would be to rent in Valencia, get to know the real estate market there and perhaps property values will decrease due to a slowing "new normal" economy and your family could make a much wiser big-ticket purchasing decision then. Food for thought.
I certainly agree. To come to an area new and not knowing could be a dangerous thing to do if you are looking to buy straight away. Rent first. Put a toe in the water. And be very wary of false promises. There are plenty of those around.
Yes I agree, Im the OP's other half...We intend renting and our plan is a 6 - 12 months stay see how we go. We are looking at Chiang Mai in Thailand as well
Should be able to pick up something cheap in Chiang Mai. The tourist trade there has bombed, affecting the local economy very badly.
