They always tell people to go to Cebu.

Did you see on my list the comment copied from another member: "Dr. Dipatado at Silliman University Medical Center “helped me survive a serious stroke for the last five years, still alive so positive”."

I was looking more for a brain surgeon than a vascular neuro one. I don’t even know if they do the same thing really. Just wondered if we have one in Duma.

What I know is they do perform head surgery here but I am not sure if they do it with success. I know someone who had to travel to Cebu for this sort of procedure.

I had my cataracts done last year here at Aces, excellent job. The surgeon comes over from Cebu, ably assisted by Dr Yap. Always make sure the eye chart exam is perfect, mine was a little off, so one lens is a little off. A friend went to Larazzabell in Cebu and it wasn't any better. Larraz drives a ferrari and keeps patients with appointments waiting 7 hours, so it isn't cheap. I have overseas blue cross for retired fed workers, so covered by insurance.

Have you contacted Dr. Dipatado? You could ask him that question - but obviously, and crucially, it is an area of medicine where a second opinion is warranted.

I had a dentist in my home country who drove a Mercedes. That's fine, but he would never have a nurse in the surgery with him - during treatment he would constantly glance at his computer screen at current stock market prices!

He advertised himself as very understanding of nervous patients - but asked my ex-wife (whom he knew to be a dental-phobic) why she was shaking! Even worse, he finished a consultation with a form on which he usually wrote something like "Weak, crumbly tooth. Needs immediate treatment to stop severe pain" and stated he needed half the fee immediately (this was to tie the worried patient into treatment). About 30 years ago he charged £500 for an 'overlay', which was actually just a filling - the normal cost of a filling was about £40. He was then found guilty of doing unnecessary work on patients - but was allowed to continue practicing!

I once thought all medical/dental practitioners did so because of a deep-seated desire to help people - but I no longer believe that, as for many the lure of the cash is greater. Probably nothing wrong with that, as everyone works to earn - but we just need to be aware of it when we are told what treatment we require. Second opinions should be a must.

Just became apparent that lack of Gastrointestinal references on this list.

From a thread on 18 Jan 2021, @Show Pony added this:

Dr. Credo is a very good GI doctor. She floats between Aces and SUMC.
Her secretary's cell is 0918 410 8705. I suggest you contact the for an appointment. Usually the Dr holds here clinic starting around 4:00 pm until she has seen everyone.

Dr. Dipatado (female) is my neurologist. She is getting up there in age, not sure if I would want her to operate on my brain but I respect her treatment. When I had a stroke, she may have helped be survive and understand my disabilities going forward.

Copied from another thread and posted their by @AlwaysRt:

This is a Recommendation for the Physical Therapist that has been doing home visits for me since August 2020. In my case it helps a lot with pain relief for my spine/back/neck issues. He is willing and able (has a motor and a car) to cover a wide area, I am in Valencia. I waited this long to recommend him so I could be 1) sure he was effective and reliable, and 2) specifically to verify US Veterans that are VA Disability Rated will be reimbursed through FMP.

Note for US Veterans with VA Rated Disability(ies) - With the Ortho Department at VA Manila being closed, they told me to be seen locally. I went to Silliman and got a referral from Orthopedics to Silliman Physical Therapy, they said they were not set up to do more than a specific are (like knee, shoulder, ect) and my whole spine was beyond their scope. So she gave me a referral to Ace who is a Licensed Physical Therapist. I started seeing him once a week and then increased to twice a week. FMP approved and reimbursed me for not only the Doctor Visits, but also every Therapy Visit that I submitted.

Here is a bit of what he does, and his contact info:
Neurological cases such as stroke, parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, to musculoskeletal cases such as back pain, fractures, sprains, joint pain. Also catering to geriatric (old) patients and pediatric (children) patients. Can also do general fitness screening and sports conditioning.
