I use protonmail and it is end-to-end encrypted (except the 'subject' line).

I never store passwords in anything other than my head or on a Word doc which is in code (refers to old places, people, dates which no-one else knows). As I wrote in my reply to Mr R, I just don't trust anything online!

Btw, an example of my style of codes (not one I use) would be 'ChouseJyr' - that would tell me the password is 'Chaneye' (a house I lived in many years ago) and the year of my brother John's birth (1956) to make Chaneye1956 as the password. Any flaws I am missing?

That is YOU on FH??? :(

Anyway, all this flattery and you are online dating at the same time! Last time I trust a nomad.

I think having a birthday can often lead to "psychological prolapse" - and haemarrhoids.

The only flaw I can see is that any slight onset of Alzheimer will deprive you of many of your passwords

    As an aside:
Q: which is worse, Alzheimer or Parkinson?
A: Parkinson, without a doubt; it's much worse when you can't drink your beer than when you forget to pay for it.
(no offense meant to anyone suffering from either of these)

If I had serious Alzheimer's, would I need passwords? Anyway, my asawa has a list of my codes and I am guessing I get memory degradation first.

I already find I am going into stores for a specific reason and forgetting why - plus approaching assistants to make an inquiry and on the way towards them I am struggling to remember why! Add to that: Putting my bag on a bench and walking off without it and only later to spot it by chance as I walked back that way (honesty points to people that no-one stole it) plus leaving items in 'baggage area' and forgetting!

But I can sign into about 20 sites by using passwords in my head and still able (relatively to those who are not, of course) to do some fast mental arithmetic. It seems that certain functions fail first - or perhaps I am losing concentration.

Tell me about it; the other day I caught myself looking for my glasses while they were on my nose,
and don't ask me how many umbrella's I left on trains

Glasses on nose - same here! Once I lost a set and about a year later found them inside my compost heap.

    The end of the saga:

Using Mr Ryes excellent suggestion of using a mouse. I got into my laptop - found about 150 items had been deleted (only real problem was the loss of WORD and substitution with Wordpad).

Re-installed the important things and later found my trackpad started working perfectly again! I did nothing to achieve that result, it just happened. Anyway, that's life!

Now I have two laptops! Isn't life marvellous.

    SO THANKS AGAIN EVERYBODY.

You aren't good looking enough to worry about this. Nobody wants to see that.

I use LastPass as well. Much more secure than saving your passwords and pin numbers on your desktop/local file/hard drive. That's an absolutely horrible idea.

Nobody is hack-proof but most government "hacks" are due to some knob forgetting their secret laptop/hard drive at the airport/in their luggage or personally uploading information from secret servers/networks to a USB and uploading it to the internet or sending it directly to a foreign nation. Again, you aren't attractive or important enough to hackers. Stick to pornhub, stop pirating movies and avoid any website that doesn't have https and you will most likely be just fine.
