Pure Camiguin Honey

I just bought a bottle of Pure Camiguin Honey, at a local food store in Siquijor that caters to foreigners. From the start, I suspected it was fake as is most honey sold in the Philippines, but thought I would try it anyway. The taste is comparable to honey, although it is a little runny. Still, I will not use it. My neighbors are delighted to take it. Anyone else on the forum have experience with this honey?

On the other hand, when visiting Dumaguete (I live on Siquijor) I always buy honey in the little store across the hall from the BOI. It is run by and for the benefit of the blind, which, as a private endeavor, I fully support. I have home tested it and found it to be as real as I am capable of determining. It even crystallizes over time, which is a hallmark of real honey. Again, anyone else familiar with this honey?

 

I think you mean the shop that benefits the deaf - BUT, a very recent posting here told us that sadly it is now closed.

It is possible you can obtain some products from their farm near Zamboanguita.

 

That store closed after the covid lockdowns and now the farm has gotten out of most of the items they used to have. The farm is at Zamboanguita. Their honey and all herbs, meats, etc., were good quality and genuine. My understanding is that it is a ministry for the deaf sponsored and/or run by the PHILIPPINE IMMANUEL CHURCHES OF THE DEAF (PICD) Inc's. Doug Clutton runs, or did run, it. I have had many good and a bad experience buying honey in Valencia market, for a long time the honey I bought from a vendor was pure, then I got 2 bottles of fake, immediately when I open the first bottle I knew it was fake, it had a bad smell and taste of chemicals. I stop buying for a while, then a few weeks ago I talk to one of the vendors and told him last time I bought honey it was fake, he open a bottle let me smell and taste it, just got a little on a finger, I'm not a honey expert but the smell and taste told me immediately this is pure. Price range between 150-250 pesos, they ask for 250 pesos, last time I offered him 200 pesos and he accepts it. Of topic, but maybe someone can have benefit from it. Last 20 years I get my healthy drink every morning, I cook (just simmer) 200 g of ginger, 2 whole garlic, and 1 citrus in 20-30 min, chopped first, then mix 2 spoons of pure honey in when it's still hot, when cold in the fridge. Every morning drink like 2-3 fingers in a glass, depends on the diameter of the glass, and how fat your fingers are. I believe it's good to keep infections away and contains some good vitamins. The honey makes the taste acceptable, I use 1 liter of water

 

Good healthy drink. It is my understanding, never to heat up honey for the most benefits. Why? The internet is full of advise on this.

But if this already works for you, keep doing it.

Back to the subject, real honey. I used to buy the 'real camiguin' honey at hyper but stopped because i dont like the flavor anymore. A bit chemical in my opinion. I am no expert to tell if that means fake.

Will keep following this tread for advise where and how to buy real honey.

 

I don't heat the honey, put it in when the mix of ginger, garlic, and citrus been through a drain and is still warm then it dissolves easily

 

I bought some “SueBee” honey at either Lee Plaza or Hypermart that tastes like actual honey. It is marked Product of the USA and is packed by Sioux Honey Assn. in Sioux City IA. It us marked “U.S. Grade A Fancy White Pure Honey” and it shows the website http:/www.siouxhoney.com. By taste and think texture I believe it is the real thing but can’t recall the cost.
