I do not have the exact figures as they vary per province/island but there isn't much as perpetrators of violent crimes are still out there on the loose. Convictions pale vs. settlement.
And the 20% are mostly crimes of passion if not theft or robbery. The deaths by hired killers presumably compose the 80% unsolved crimes.
Part of what you see as the problem is actually the solution. Many criminals are killed. Many murders are killed by people who seek justice. Do you remember the stabbings on the boulevard with the ice pick? Then a couple of weeks later a young man was murdered by two pairs of riding in tandem and they left a piece of rebar stuck in his throat. Was it justice at work?
Depends on who did the work. If it was the victim or a relative then revenge. On the other hand if it was part of the affordable justice system then it was justice. This is a poor community. They cannot afford the solid walls, doors with deadbolt locks, police cars, prison buildings, food to feed the inmates, etc. Admittedly the affordable justice system is not as good as the expensive justice system you are accustomed to in the rich countries. It is all that this economy can afford.
Well, lynching was a traditional way of getting justice for the victim. It is still resorted to in some parts of India etc and some communities in the Philippines like what happened to a guy who was stabbed to death at a resto where he worked in Valencia. That man was said to have raped and killed a girl a week before the stabbing. This is unacceptable for we have laws. However, justice grinds so slowly in this part of the world so nasty things happen.
This is a difficult one. We all know of the murdering, drug-selling scum who stay at the top and enjoy a luxurious life-style because they are untouchable by the law. Would a bullet in the head really be a bad thing? I think not. There is no revenge in that unless the executioner had a personal involvement. If a person did something terrible to a family member and admitted it to me but denied it to the law officers, would it be a bad thing if I had him eliminated? I think not. This one is revenge but also provides justice.
It’s a mental thing. He admitted he’s a drug addict/user. He’s low & a danger to society. He should not be allowed to inhabit anywhere near people.
Well I suppose that is the problem with letting individuals determine and carrying out their own brand "justice" . Drug users are still human. How they got to where they are is just a consequence of their circumstances. If you had the exact same life experiences you would not be any better off.
