According to an article published in Lockdown Sceptics, Dr. Michael Yeadon wrote, “There is absolutely no need for vaccines to extinguish the pandemic. I’ve never heard such nonsense talked about vaccines. You do not vaccinate people who aren’t at risk from a disease. You also don’t set about planning to vaccinate millions of fit and healthy people with a vaccine that hasn’t been extensively tested on human subjects.” “ SAGE says everyone was susceptible and only 7% have been infected. I think this is literally unbelievable. They have ignored all precedent in the field of immunological memory against respiratory viruses. They have either not seen or disregarded excellent quality work from numerous, world-leading clinical immunologists which show that around 30% of the population had prior immunity.” “They should also have excluded from ‘susceptible’ a large subset of the youngest children, who appear not to become infected, probably because their immature biology means their cells express less of the spike protein receptor, called ACE2. I have not assumed all young children don’t participate in transmission, but believe a two thirds value is very conservative. It’s not material anyway,” Yeadon wrote “So SAGE is demonstrably wrong in one really crucial variable: they assumed no prior immunity, whereas the evidence clearly points to a value of around 30% (and nearly 40% if you include some young children, who technically are ‘resistant’ rather than ‘immune’),” wrote Yeadon And considering the reality of herd immunity, when susceptibility to a virus falls this low, at around 28 to 35%, “that population can no longer support an expanding outbreak of disease,” and thus the virus “wanes and disappears.” “The pandemic is effectively over and can easily be handled by a properly functioning NHS (National Health Service). Accordingly, the country should immediately be permitted to get back to normal life.” concludes Yeadon https://www.nationalheraldindia.com...-is-over-says-former-vice-president-of-pfizer Full interview here: https://lockdownsceptics.org/what-sage-got-wrong/
Extract from a recent article NIH ...... “We have now proven that, in some people, pre-existing T cell memory against common cold coronaviruses can cross-recognize SARS-CoV-2, down to the exact molecular structures,” Weiskopf says. “This could help explain why some people show milder symptoms of disease while others get severely sick.” “It still remains to be addressed whether this immune memory reactivity influences clinical outcomes and translates into some degrees of protection from more severe disease,” adds Sette. “Having a strong T cell response, or a better T cell response may give you the opportunity to mount a much quicker and stronger response.” Notably, these findings contrast with those from antibodies, which haven’t shown significant cross-reactivity between common cold coronaviruses and SARS-CoV-2. More research is needed to determine whether immune cell cross-reactivity contributes to the wide range of symptoms seen with COVID-19. —by Tianna Hicklin, Ph.D........... But I cannot find a recent reference particular to the 30% figure relating to this strain of Corona. Interesting though!
LUPAD Dumaguete ''City of Gentle People'' tSponnso9cgredh · Shared with: Public 12 NEW COVID-19 CASES; MOSTLY FAMILY MEMBERS City Health Officer Dr. Maria Sarah B. Talla reports 12 new COVID-19 cases today, many of them are members of the same families of previous confirmed cases. Lately, it has been observed that the transmission of the virus is mostly among family members in households who share the same dining utensils, sleeping quarters and bathrooms. In her report, Dr. Talla provided the profiles of the 12 new COVID-19 cases: BARANGAY CALINDAGAN 1. The 20-year-old daughter of NEGOR-COV 568 2. The 28-year-old daughter of NEGOR-COV 568 3. The 58-year-old wife of NEGOR-COV 568 4. The 37-year-old health worker and son of NEGOR-COV 595 admitted at NOPH POBLACION 2 5. The 57-year-old daughter of NEGOR-COV 573 6. There are now 36 active cases being monitored as of Saturday evening. Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo appealed to the members of the public to be vigilant and always follow the minimum health standards of using face masks, avoid prolonged mass gatherings when social distancing is not possible and frequent hand washing. Being a component city of the province of Negros Oriental and the center of trade, commerce and health industry, Dumaguete City cannot impose a lockdown or community quarantine unless approved by higher authorities. Households with confirmed COVID cases are placed on lockdown and relief food packs are provided by the City Government and the barangays For now, people from outside Dumaguete City are discouraged from coming to the city unless extremely necessary or related to seeking urgent medical care. This has been shown to be false. Children are infected. “So SAGE is demonstrably wrong in one really crucial variable: they assumed no prior immunity, whereas the evidence clearly points to a value of around 30%" My question would be how does that help us? If we have to test for that, why not just vaccinate them? Practical, but they could pay to have their choice, unless they're anti-vaxx. Sweden should have done better this time if Yeaden is correct. Sweden isn't doing better. A board friend did a write up om what is showing up in athletes. It looks like my initial assessment that the lung barrier has to be broken for the rest of the body, heart, etc., was incorrect. If you're hospitalized but recover, you may have life long problems. Here's a brevit part: Is College Football Making the Pandemic Worse? https://www.newyorker.com/sports/sporting-scene/is-college-f... Big Ten university presidents said that the reversal was prompted by new medical advice. The conference had enlisted a private company to provide daily rapid tests to all teams; experts had provided stringent health and safety guidelines. There was evidence that heart complications might be rarer in athletes than had been feared—and doctors and researchers had developed a screening protocol for detecting myocarditis. There was truth to all of this, but it was not the whole story. While some medical experts believed that you could find a safe-enough way to play, most epidemiologists and public-health professors I spoke to were not in favor of it. What had really changed between August and September was that college football had come back without the Big Ten, outbreaks had happened, and there had been little outcry. By the time that the Big Ten resumed play, in late October, Notre Dame, Florida, Cincinnati, and several other ranked teams had all had coronavirus clusters. Bills' Tommy Sweeney out for season with myocarditis stemming from Covid-19 https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/bills-tommy-sweeney-out... Bills tight end Tommy Sweeney will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with myocarditis related to Covid-19, coach Sean McDermott said Monday. Myocarditis is an inflammatory heart disease that has been found in Covid-19 patients, as well as those with other viruses, and has ended the seasons for Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez and other athletes. Coronavirus Disease 2019 and the Athletic Heart https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/... Cardiac injury with attendant negative prognostic implications is common among patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Whether cardiac injury, including myocarditis, also occurs with asymptomatic or mild-severity COVID-19 infection is uncertain. There is an ongoing concern about COVID-19–associated cardiac pathology among athletes because myocarditis is an important cause of sudden cardiac death during exercise.
This is why I recently wrote about not vaccinating the young (other than the vulnerable ill and possibly the obese just to be safe) but to allow them to achieve natural immunity. Why waste time, money and risk in vaccinating a group of very low susceptibility. The 60% (or whatever level is required) of herd immunity could be achieved so much more speedily using this approach. Over to you @mykajabi77 for the superior opinion.
I didn't. I'm not used to this system, still learning it, and having to go back and look again, is difficult with this jumping around. The second statement I consider a waffle on his part. If you followed the large Indian study, children transmit, but mostly to other children, which makes sense, but they do transmit to adults also. I'm not impressed with his claims. We have been guessing at cross immunity for some time. I think it exists, but it seems to vary by population and strength. So do we know enough about it? Doesn't seem so. I think there's a good possibility there's cross immunity here in the Phils, but do we do a $3 test (guess) to see if a $3 to $5 vaccine is merited? Just vaccinate them. There may be populations we can't get to easily, so forming a barrier is some protection. In the rich countries, vaccinate everyone you can, but in order of risk, so kids will be last. We don't know how long the vaccine lasts yet.
Seems to be more difficult to follow along with the points being made. Probably just me. Too used to the KISS method.
