The Covid Vaccine Passports won't fly in the US and likely most other western countries. Laws concerning protection and privacy of medical records are at play. Further countries who bar acceptance of the US passport directly also are likely to be barred from entry for their passports as well. This means ASEAN countries can play this game to a degree but won't actually work as they hope as western countries and money they rely on won't allow this.

I think the law you refer to us HIPPA (sp?). We routinely sign away our privacy to life and health insurance companies, prospective employers, other doctor specialists and others. Yes, we have privacy but it doesn’t mean much. I suppose when you elect to get the “passport” there will be a dotted line telling you to sign in order to be in the system. If there are games being played, an ASEAN country can and probably will say that without the covid passport you can still come in but must be quarantined for 14 days and take tests etc..Airlines could refuse boarding without the passport as they are private entities. What I have read is about a movement amongst several countries to accept this as a standard procedure tk greatly expedite international travel although that hasn’t happened yet. It could be an improvement given the current situation of many different requirements from country to country.

I am sure that in the short-term, some form of certificate will be requested to prove vaccination - this will force many people reluctant to have a vaccination to do so, otherwise they will not be able to work, shop, eat outside the home, travel, get medical/dental treatment, etc.

But surely it has to be a photo id or with name/dob as a minimum - it has to be linked to the holder to prevent people just using another person's certificate.

As the virus wanes, then perhaps so will the certificate - but Covid-19 is not flu and governments will remain wary of it recurring.

I am just waiting to see what additional requirements bureaucratic and low-thinking countries will add on - perhaps they do this to give the appearance of thinking for themselves and being ahead of the game (but which, usually, they are not).

A certificate of vaccination is already in use for entry into certain countries/areas for certain diseases, i.e. Yellow Fever, Hep A & B etc. These certificates are linked to the individual by name, DOB & passport number. There is also an International Certificate of Vaccination available that is linked in the same way. Covid vac could simply be added to that. All vacc's are dated and signed by the Dr or Nurse giving the vaccine along with the Serno and batch of the dose.

It seems to me the system is already there and just needs the Covid 19 vac adding along with countries signing up to it (In applicable countries the incumbent airlines already do it for say Yellow Fever.....no cert = no boarding). No interference with one's privacy and not even an extra document.

I have the International Vaccination Booklet.. but "HOLD MY BEER" Remember where you are and these people will turn something simple into something very complicated in their attempt to re-invent the wheel..I see in Bacolod they are ready having people pre-register to receive the vaccine even though it will not be available here until May from what i have read..

Do the majority of people here hold any form of Vaccination Certificate already?

I have never had one and, obviously, have travelled. Many citizens here have not I assume - unless the numbers of OFWs is very high.

I think there is a possibility here they will want their own system (see @andiflip above) - as with vehicle number plates, just wait 3 years to get whatever they 'design'. They are starting to roll out a Citizens' ID (which some wealthy countries abandoned due to cost) but we will see what becomes of that.

I dont have a Vaccination Certificate, have traveled a fair bit over the years never been asked.

I can see some forgery coming soon with vaccination Certificates.

I've never been asked for my card. I was given one because getting hit up with the smallpox, anthrax, hepatitis, typhoid and every other vaccine the military requires every contract was getting a bit old...and I'm sure getting them repeatedly like that can't be all that good for you. If I ever have children they almost certainly will be autistic.
