The complaint is about other threads regularly going off-topic. Off-topic posts don't magically get moved to the off-topic thread on their own, they have to be identified and then moved there by a moderator. I cannot possibly moderate and move every single off-topic post live as they happen. I am currently the only person moderating this forum and I do have a life. This gives users the ability to self moderate, which should result in off-topic posts getting flagged much quicker and limit the chances that other members will become frustrated by keeping these posts out of their new post feed and will give me a break from having to move posts. (Moving off-topic posts is by far the #1 reported, complained about and moderating action I need to take here.)
Asking for a friend here, but is there any way a person can move his (or her or them) own comment into off-topic if, by a mere typo, slip of the pen, brain shift, or other legitimate reason, he (or she or them) made an off-topic post elsewhere but felt regret and wanted to rectify the situation, whilst at the same time allowing his (or her or them) fellow Forum members a bit of light relief in this time of reduction in their lives and, coincidentally, reducing the workload for the one remaining moderator for whom the person would not wish to cause extra workload in addition to his daily requirement for diet monitoring, gym work and general caring duties for his flock?
You could highlight your entire message and quote yourself in the off topic area. That will not remove your original post but at least it would appear as a mia culpa. Do it. You'll feel better about yourself. This the year 2021 where "feeling are now facts". Remember you heard that from the Pony first. LOL
I thought a quote remains in the same thread. Do you think it a good idea if that friend I referred to (even though you seem to have concluded it is I who am the one asking???) doubles his (her or them) postings? This could be the precursor to a new Big Bang. Also (and on topic to my 'Big Bang' above), I note your advice (wisdom) and so conclude that if a person feels himself (herself or them) then it becomes a fact? Great for teenagers who can now spend all day doing facts.
You can press the quote button, highlight the text, create a new thread or go to the off-topic thread and then paste that quote there and reply.
By "paste" he means the "Insert Quotes" button to the lower left of where you type in your post. The forum has a feature that allows you to add multiple posts to a clipboard. This is done by finding the posts you want to quote and clicking the + Quote button. Each time you do this it will add the post to the clipboard for later use. When you type your reply you press the "Insert Quotes" button and select the post you want to quote.
That would be a loss. Many of your posts are quite funny. Would it be just as funny or insightful if you quoted the original post in the off topic thread?
