And if I might add, young teenage boys too.

I did not deliberately exclude half the population!

I was repeating what I had recently read from a report on a study - but could not find the original article to reference it.

That study was on girls - an interesting point as:

    1. Females are the bedrock of Instagram and all the other 'show your t*ts' social media sites. I would show mine but don't think I would get a following (except for a few odd ones).
    2. Females are in general more 'social animals' (from earlier times when they gossiped at the camp while the men went out hunting). I don't know any figures but I guess social media is dominated by females (and then the men 'hunting' them).
    3. Perhaps there are justifiable reasons, but a lot of research and help seems to be focusing on females. I read a few days ago that the UK is building new prisons for women to give them better conditions and help to stop women going there in the first place. Already it seems that for similar offences, females get off far more lightly in sentencing.

They say 'it is a man's world' but in many ways that is entirely untrue.

I get depression daily. If it wasn’t for my wife and son, i would be ready to die. They alone keep me trying to survive, for the third time. I believe it is entirely up to us to keep pushing. Don’t feel sorry for yourself. Be strong, not a weakling, there are many people worse off. Depression is self inflicted, imho.

    Thank you for sharing that.

Many people who feel in a desperate situation do not die as they find a strong reason to keep living - often it is for loved ones. And there is no better reason to keep going.

A lot of useful info, and some v bad info on this thread. Me, I’m just a jobbing Shrink that scans kids brains at x50-120 per sec for a variety of reasons. Um, it’s really cool when they light up as we’ve given them smells, sights, sounds, and maybe all 3 in various cues n combos. My job is good fun.

I held off from commenting on the first poster as I was conscious about the statement about lack of kuarta - and it’s good that some folk have dived in with tips/advice, stuff to do explanations etc. But to be a little arrogant, condescending and downright offensive here, our guy, the first poster, his friend, needs a thorough checking out before anyone leaps to conclusions about the ‘best way’, “it worked for me” or anything else. No-one with a sore throat would expect advice like “rub baka shite into your goolies x3 pday, it will go away. Talaga” whether qualified to dispense such advice or not.

My point here is that Docs both here and in your domicile take 5 years basic training- just for their foundational degree. It’s hard effing work. The next part is even worse, 8-10 years on the Consultant route probably working 60-70 hrs pweek in yer face hard medicine.

Talking about the word “hard”...one of my colleagues pre-Viagra, used to pump up the old fellas, measure inflation, angle and capacity before giving the nod to set away-to Mavis, David or Dobbin. With advice about deflationary expiration. Nod, nod, nod, good to go...you have 5 hours. Make her, him, it happy. I digress.

I feel helpless here, yes Panic Disorder is a consideration, but there a few more considerations pud. Best advice is to see someone capable of that. Good luck.

No one can, or should, disagree with your professional opinion (even though I was so badly attacked by someone here for giving advice on virology, or perhaps just for being a scientist, that the post was deleted by the mod before most people had read it! But as the writer probably did not know anything about the subject, it had no effect on me).

So I appreciate the long training and further experience you have had and how from a professional point-of-view you must have shaken your head very much when reading this thread. But I wish to make two points:

    1. The OP definitely stated that his friend had no resource to the money required for professional help (but I did suggest as my first point to see a general doctor, as that is really not that expensive and is better than nothing). No one could reply to his posting with the advice to see someone he already stated he has no resources to consult. So people did their best. There was NOTHING else available to the friend of the OP. So my greatest respect for your expert opinion but also to those who tried to offer something, even if the advice was not as good as it could be if we were all trained psychiatrists.
    2. The OP has NOT been back to read any of this - I just checked. It is essential if asking for advice to come back and read it. In another very recent case of a poster whose wife was suffering acute abdominal pain, he posted for advice and returned within the hour to read it. He immediately took action and the situation was resolved. I trust if the OP of this thread on 'Panic attacks' does return that he will read your expert opinion and try harder to find the necessary finances to get professional help.

    Just a little
Some forum members were speaking from personal experiences.

True - missed that point! (Senility)

But he might have signed in a few seconds just to acknowledge the effort so many members put into helping his friend.
