I have seen on another forum that there are plans to make all drivers do a refresher course which apparently takes between 8 - 15 hours. I can find no official details on this subject so don't know if it is BS or not, has anybody on this forum heard of this ??
Face Book had a posting the Non-Professional course would be 4 hours and the Professional course would be 8 hours. My guess is the course will never happen. If the PNP/LTO enforced some of the rules and handed out fines people would learn on their own pretty quickly.
For those applying for a Philippine Driver's License, the LTO now is giving both written and practical exams. Since the "written" exam is actually on a computer terminal, you will have to book your appointment first. They will ask you what vehicle are you driving, the practical test will be on that vehicle. By the way, as a requirement for application, is proof that one has completed the required minimum hours with an accredited driving school.
How do you find the road rules, I'm completely comfortable riding my scoot even in Cebu city but driving a car in the Philippines I have rarely done and it scares the cr@p out of me. How did you guys learn also coming from Aust we drive on the other side of the road.
Feel that this is not accurate as the Philippines have the best drivers of any Country. They are the only Peoples that can drive with no brakes!!!!!!!!!
I for one when I hit the road, say to myself "Honk if you did not graduate" I never honk BTW. Then I view every single vehicle as a driver that wants to crash into your car. So... it's about concentrating and driving here is a like playing pin-ball.... avoid the bouncers, they are every where.
I do ride a motor bike in Philippines have done for a while (also Thailand) been riding bikes all my life so what you say above I understand and ride that way in any country. What I don't understand is the rules (if any) who gives way to who etc. On a bike its easy to move around traffic bit harder in a car. I will read through Rye83 document.
You are supposed to honk your horn. Horns are as important as headlights and turn signals in this country. Many times I have come up on some idiot looking the wrong direction preparing to cross the road. I tap the horn to get their attention pointed in the right direction. I tap the horn to let people know my intention to overtake them. I also tap the horn when there are large vehicles parked close to (or on) the roadway that I can't see the what's happening in front of them to give warning to any pedestrian or drivers that may be in their blind spot preparing to do something stupid (like merge/cross traffic without looking).
