Just when I thought kids on bikes (bicycles ) had caused enought frustration riding on the Pavement, doing wheelie's in the middle of the road, cutting through traffic and all the other stupid things they think is cool. Along comes the electric scooters and motorised bicycle. Today to my shock and annoyance I was confronted by three young lads, two on motorised bikes and one on a electric scooter. Apart from the stupidity of riding without helmets, the speed of which they can travel is sure to present an even more dangerous situation both on the roads and indeed if they start to use them on cycle lanes ( some of which are painted on pavements, by Govenment orders, to comply with the European mandate to provide cycles lanes). Do I envy you guys in your tranquil settings, relaxing with a San-Miguel ? It's enough to turn a tea totalier to drink!!!!!
Tis the one thing that will remain constant. The ever over flowing abundance of ignorance and stupidity World wide.
Motorized bikes as in Electric or petrol powered? Electric scoots and bikes have regulated speed limit of 26kph in most countries. Think NZ is 32kph. This can be modified but in Australia you can be fined although never heard of anyone getting a find.
The idiots on bikes and scooters is not unique to your location. In the last year biking has exploded in popularity here. Huge groups take up entire lanes, swerve left and right as they pedal, refuse to give way to faster traffic, pull out into traffic without looking, have flashing lights so bright that they blind oncoming traffic at night, etc.
Tranquil? there's a loud noise coming from the back about 100 meters, a group of kids playing crappy noise out of their boom box with the base turned on full. This is every weekend and sometimes during the week days. Great when they turn it off on Monday then I can here the roosters and barking dogs. More fun in da Philippines. NOT.
If only I had a dashcam.... One bike in the fast lane, one bike in the slow lane. These guys had some point to prove. No idea what it was. There had been a heavy rain leaving a small fishing pond at the curb. The slow lane guy pulled along side Mr Fast lane to avoid the puddle. HALA. Some one in a Ford Raptor siezed the moment and went blasting through the pond. Dumb and Dumber almost got washed off their bikes. If only I had the video it would be all over the internet. d*mn, I'd be a Tic-toc Star.
Yes this is me.......haha But I ride in the jungle from the top down at high speed frightening chickens, cows and the odd farmer....
Yeah, I tend to turn high beam on them when I encounter them coming the other way at night. That's if I didn't already have it on in a vain attempt to see all the motorbikes running without any lights. In fact the safest thing is probably to just keep high beam on all the time after dark, unless you're on a lit urban street.
Aren't all farmers odd? (Apologies to any farmers on the Forum). And, no, I'm not a farmer - just odd.
The safest thing is to adjust your speed according to the conditions. Given the amount of reckless and/or drunk driving, I'd personally light myself up like a Christmas tree were I brave enough to ride a bicycle here at night.
