That is shocking! No other similar hospitals, procedures never done before by anyone, doctors all neonatals?
Oh, you have no idea. That is the most minor in a long line of much more shocking things. The whole thing is quite a big scam, I wish I could go into details.
It's such a problem here giving details - the laws of defamation protect incompetence. I know a well-known doctor at a very well-known hospital who I would not even allow to remove a splinter from my finger - but can I say here who he is?
I have been in three of the hospitals here. I would put Holy Child at the bottom of the list of hospitals I would go to in Dumaguete. If given the opportunity, go to Cebu Doctors Hospital. Experience counts.
Hmmm. This is a challenge. A patient gets to know the reputation of doctors, chooses the one that they think is the best and then goes to the hospital where that doctor practices. We collect a lot of information on this forum about doctors in Dumaguete. It is true that when you are being wheeled into an emergency room after a gruesome accident you want it to be a hospital where the ER doctors have a lot of experience. On the other hand going to Cebu Doctors Hospital for a planned operation is like playing roulette. We do not have the information to choose a doctor there. How does one here in Dumaguete choose a doctor in Cebu?
I have experience, direct and indirect, of two - and put Holy Child way above Silliman. The room was certainly better at HC but my choice is also based on the actual doctors - one was very good (his anesthesiologist was not) and one was VERY bad (should have retired years ago). Admission into HC was very slow - arrived about 9 am and went to the room about 5 pm! From what I have read on the Forum recently, it is very difficult to choose from the 4 private hospitals when none is very good.
I prefer SUMC over HC, Wife and I got food poisoning from eating some shellfish, we went to HC because that was nearest. They put us together in a room designed for one person, putting me in a camp-bed that was painful to lay in. we got the lab results, negative but kept us in overnight anyhow. That was several years ago BTW. Caught Dengue last year, went to SUMC and was looked after very well, got the lab results and was diagnosed Positive for dengue. Again, I was looked after by the staff and with a comfortable bed this time. I don't know about the other two hospitals.
That seems the root of the problem - no common standards within the hospitals, let alone amongst them. Everyone has so many different stories about their care, or lack of.
I would highly recommend Dr. John Viola. He is American trained, has saved my life 2 times, when a local hospital was just guessing at my prognosis. He is at Cebu Doctors.
