Just looking for somebody with similar experience, to ask what they did.

Okay, more fun in the Philippines... I ordered a SSD on Amazon and after few days i got this email from UPS that they needed a OMB permit bladiblabla and this usual not understandable description what to do and where to send it. Wanting me to make xeroxes, sign 3 times, 2 ID's, go to notary public, bladiblabla... to receive my parcel.

If it is not more fun they can always make life hell with this kind of BS right?

In the like 10 attachments with this email, there is one draft letter to ask for waiver of this OMB stuff. I filled this one in and send it back to the 7 !! email adresses who where in the CC from the email send to me.

Okay, so my question. Did anybody here dealt with this import omb before and what did you do? I am not going to a notary public to notarize and follow this whole process. Just hope this will be waived, like requested in the letter or they can put this SSD in a dark bay way it was not intended to go. Or send it back to Amazon.

I paid Amazon with my CreditCard so this is insured. If I never receive it, will just claim it as so.

Sounds like a headache. I would tell Amazon the item was not received and get my refund. Is there a reason why you don't want to order from a local vendor on lazada?

My thoughts exactly. I've just ordered 2 x Toshiba Canvio 2TB External SSD from Lazada - 3 year guarantee, original and same price as UK. Delivered in a week and no hassle

    I don't know.
Well you learn something every day. The Optical Media Board is a government agency.

    OMB = OPTICAL MEDIA BOARD

The importation/exportation of magnetic media such as solid state drives (SDD), hard disc drives (HDD), secure digital card (SD card), flash/thumb drives, and technical variations thereof, regardless of quantity, shall require a permit or license, whichever is applicable, from the Optical Media Board, whether said importation/exportation be done by an individual or a corporate/juridical entity.

Good thing I have ordered lots of these on Shopee from the Kingston Flagship store in Manila. For computer parts, I like to ensure that I am getting branded stuff. I am under the assumption that this is a factory store. I also like that this Shopee seller is in the Philippines. Faster and lower cost shipping. (I now always look for Filipino legit sellers.)

Sorry you fell into this trap. Maybe the authorities fear people are importing porn on SSD. Why else would they have this law? SSD drives and chips are not made in the Philippines so there is no local industry to protect.

I'm not sure if this the reason but they do produce and export quite a bit of electronics.

I believe I have read they provide China with a lot of their circuit boards.

They also produce HHD and SSD storage cards with Toshiba: https://asia.nikkei.com/Editor-s-Pi...n-out-world-leading-hard-drive-in-Philippines

Got my refund, not problem. The SSD sits somewhere in customs mnl from where i get a 'barcode was scanned' notice everyday from the tracking site.
Amazon customer chat told me it was lost. Well whatever, not my problem anymore. I send UPS one waiver letter to ask to bypass this BS but no answer yet.

Yes, ther is a reason why i did not order locally. I wanted a 2tb specific crucial ssd i could not find locally so ordered on amazon.
Now i ordered a Kingston on shopee. Much cheaper but not the one i actually wanted. I just have very good experience with Crucial MX series, very fast and reliable.
