Good news for travellers and the Cebu economy - but this will allow asymptomatics and pre-symptomatics to get through. People may be in the same transport as those people and so personal care again becomes paramount.

So are they going to issue a medical certificate on the basis of a temperature reading and if you can stop coughing long enough.
My temperature at Robinsons showed 33.5....
What happens when you want to come back to Dumaguete ?

They are the experts and all of this has gone thru a proper scientific process.

    I don't know.
I am glad to see that the authorities are loosening restrictions on travel within the region. All of the provinces are coping with the wave caused by the delta variant. Cebu is a bit ahead on the timeline.

When the percentage of contagious people is the same in different provinces it does not matter how many people travel between these provinces. The odds of getting sick from a local vs a traveler from another province are the same.

There was a time while Negros Oriental had avoided the contagion by isolating itself. Now that there are as many contagious people here as in other places, keeping people out no longer matters. Same with Cebu. This medical certificate will cost less than the testing.

But the odds of picking up an infection from an asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic fellow passenger in a bus on a 5 to 6 hour journey is surely MUCH higher than walking around a store or in the streets in the area you came from. That is the point (on the bus) when travellers need to protect themselves to a high degree.

This also applies to the vaccinated as (to quote a Swedish study) "Seven months after receiving the second dose, the number of antibodies had decreased by 85 percent among those immunized with the Pfizer vaccine --where [the subjects] had not been infected with the virus before vaccination. However, the decrease was considerably slower among those who had been infected with the virus before receiving the vaccine. Among those vaccinated with AstraZeneca, researchers observed an even greater decrease."

So no-one can afford any complacency with this virus. Almost 5 million already dead. Great to have the freedom to travel but people need to continue great caution for some time yet.

The vaccine greatly decreases the likelihood of death. This is a disease of the unvaccinated now.

I say p*ss on those that refuse to follow the science. It is self inflicted and the science is clear. If they can't see there is no long term without being concerned for the short term then give them their Darwin awards. Let their stupid decrease the power of their vote, society will only benefit from their absence.

If I read this correctly, are you saying that the science is clear that the vaccines are effective at reducing serious illness and deaths from Covid and have no long-term negative affects? If so, then please give the SOURCE for the science behind the long-term effects (I already know the science behind the current benefits of vaccination). If I have misunderstood then please clarify what you mean.

A further point is that whilst vaccines are having an excellent short-term effect on serious illness and death, their effectiveness is wearing off sooner than expected - studies are showing much lower antibody counts after only 7 months. This disease if now mostly affecting the unvaccinated but possibly it will increasingly affect the vaccinated also (perhaps less so in countries where people can get a 3rd shot (booster)).

If I read it correctly he means there (possibly) won't be much of a long term to worry about if one doesn't care to protect themselves in the short term by getting vaccinated.

As for the waning antibody count studies, antibodies are only part of the story with regard to immune systems. There's also T-cells that have a "memory" function regarding previous infections (and fake infections -vaccinations-). Those T-cells will quickly mount defenses against renewed infection in a person with a healthy immune system.
Which is why booster shots are way more important for those with deficiencies in their immune system (generally elderly people).

However, experiences in Israel and Singapore, both boasting vaccination rates over 80% and yet seeing record breaking numbers of infections should give us pause.
I haven't read reports yet that confirm "herd immunity" is a figment of the imagination for this virus and its variants but it sure seems to point that way.
