With the announcement that the current President is to retire from Politics Who do think will win the fight to be the next President of Philippines? Does Manny Pacquiao stand a chance, or will the Marcos family return to power? Could you visualise Leni Robredo as President? Who would be your choice and why.
If seems like Duterte's daughter is almost an incumbent because of her Dad. My wife likes the current mayor of Manila Isko Moreno.
we're with cabb's wife, Moreno seems the least corrupt and most efficient and least controversial except with the crooks. Wish we could vote.
The last I heard Sarah Duterte was run for mayor of Davao. Some of the election rules here are a little strange. According to my wife. Anyone running for a position must declare their candidacy by October 8th. They can change the position they are running for up until October 15th. My guess is if two good candidates from the same party run for the same position they can get shuffled around. Another strange law allows for a member of the same family to take the place of the declared candidate if the original person is unable to continue the electoral race. I could go on ad nauseam about what could possibly happen but the list is too long.
I hope it is acceptable for foreigners here to state an opinion - as they could do from outside the country and still be read inside it. But we all know it is very dangerous to go into public and set up a soap-box to campaign from! I hope the people get the rulers they want but winners can have a low percentage of votes, so not everyone will be happy. The last I read it seems 'BongBong' Marcos is a strong contender for President (and may ask 'Bong' Go to be his VP running mate - what a great BongBongBong!) but could possibly be beaten by Sara Duterte. A lot depends on if Sara Duterte runs and how voters use their votes for a second (or third, etc) choice as candidates withdraw - I read of so many combinations of realignment that it means the result is not sure until the VAT Lady stings. All very interesting and a good distraction for the next few months.

I think it is - Mrs M has done well as a Senator over the years. The son is very strong in the north of the country and the number of candidates means a win requires less than 50% of the votes - Duterte won with 38% (but was 15% above the next highest). It seems the vote might be tighter this time and surveys' most popular potential President, Sara Duterte, appears to have ruled herself out. The good news is that 'Like father like son' is not true - or I would have shot myself years ago.
After reading the above article and then some, I'm not convinced that is good news or matters at all. Family business.
