That accords with what we had discovered but thanks so very much for making such an effort. Another good soul on the Forum.

Actually, the travel currently involved is Duma to Dapitan to Ozamiz City but I wondered about the Duma to CdO ferry as there may be a time some months ahead I would use it if the service ever restarted. Did you wife's friend know anything about that particular ferry route?

The Roro ferry that was running between Dumaguete and CDO v.v. was only once a week during the weekend. A daily service or higher than once a week if they ever should restart such a service is very unlikely to make it profitable.

It was in the planning stages. We asked him the same question and this was his responce:

I constantly visit dumaguete last quarter of 2019 until the 1st quarter of 2020 as I have planned to start a route in Dumaguete but unfortunately due to this pandemic, it came to a halt

No timeline on if/when it will be recisited. We asked him to let us know if it changes.

    My understanding is that
Dapitan to Ozamiz City is a couple of hours. Perhaps a family member can pick you up or hire a driver for a day (better than a bus).

There's two things to consider (especially for international flights):
    1. As a general rule buying air-tickets for let's say 6 months to a year out will always be much cheaper than trying to get hold of a ticket for tomorrow/next week. That's nothing new related to the pandemic, it's always been like that.
    2. There's the last minute tickets that might be cheap, if you're willing to fly to whatever destination. Chances of tickets to "your" destination being "last minute cheap" are not good.

The airline strategy is simply to make sure early that they have a reasonably full aircraft that can fly without a loss, and making business travellers (who can't book long in advance) pay (a lot) more to generate profits.

Lastly, whenever shopping around online for cheap tickets, always make sure to use a "private" browser window, to avoid the website tracking you and showing you a higher price every time you refresh the page or search with slightly different parameters.

    I don't know.
Has anyone noticed that during the pandemic these flights get canceled and then special near term flights get created with only expensive seats? I, and others I know have had a number of flights canceled. If I call the airline I am offered a expensive near term option.

How can we schedule low cost tickets if they keep canceling the flights? Then we have to rearrange accommodations, reschedule family etc.
I have noticed this too. Thanks for informing everyone of the trick.

Yes, the pandemic obviously is to blame for cancelled flights, more so than any other cause at this time.
I have to assume this happens because many aspiring travelers are still reluctant to actually book a ticket and go, or cancel/reschedule their tickets as their departure date draws near and newer information about the covid related risks/consequences (quarantine/testing, whatever) of flying gets available, leaving the airline with a flight that can't generate a profit.

    I don't know.
Canceling a flight to encourage people to buy a more expensive seat on another flight or keeping their money for 7 months is a profit motive.

I read before and just checked at https://www.pcmag.com/picks/stop-trackers-dead-the-best-private-browsers and it seems that private browsers do not stop tracking - they just delete internet browsing history once the browser is closed. So it is a local issue to the device.

The article lined also states how fingerprinting may be more of an issue than tracking and that adding codes to web addresses can track that search.

Anyone wanting to find the best browsers need to read the article but I use Firefox and Brave - I hate Edge but every time I delete it I find it reappears again quite soon (should be illegal under Data privacy Laws the way organisations can steal information - often forcing us to give permission). I also use VPN, Malewarebytes, Avast and SpywareBlaster, regularly clean my laptop using CCleaner - but I simply have no idea how much they are tracking me (but I block ads anyway).

Whatever they are doing to get my data for free, good luck to them as I don't use my real name for almost anything (especially emails). Somewhere is a file saying that Fred Bloggs of Samoa (or wherever) likes peanuts.

For those concerned about fingerprinting issues when browsing the web, there's a quite effective free protection script available as an extension for Chrome and Firefox. Read more about it here (download links to chrome webstore and mozilla downloads available at that (developer) website).

seems only very expensive air fares across the world as the airlines try to make some money to cover the heavy losses from the last 18 months, searching into mid 2022 and only expensive tickets show up.
