LTO to roll out 10-year driver's license from Oct. 28

    https://cnnphilippines.com/news/2021/10/27/LTO-10-year-drivers-license-rollout.html

    Some points:

Motorists will soon be issued a driver's license that's valid for 10 years. But only drivers with zero violations on file are entitled to a license good for ten years. Those who have breached traffic laws may only avail of a five-year renewal.

The LTO will start rolling out the extended validity beginning Thursday, Oct. 28. This will initially be limited to Quezon City. Other Metro Manila areas will be covered next week, and the rest of the country in the following days.

Motorists seeking to renew their licenses must first pass a comprehensive driver's education (CDE) program before submitting an application. The law requires them to go through a refresher seminar.

To give drivers more time to comply with the CDE requirement, the agency said it is extending the validity of existing licenses by two months from the date of expiration.

    CDE:

"We advise those who are due for renewal not to go to the LTO until they have the certificate to prove they have finished the seminar."

The CDE is being offered for free at all of its offices, as well as on its website and platforms, such as Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The accompanying exam may be taken through the Land Transportation Management System portal, or at driver's education centers in select LTO offices.

The course and the exam may also be taken at accredited driving schools where a fee will be charged.

Should a person fail to pass, they can retake the seminar as many times as needed [that won't concern anyone on this Forum!].

    Why ?
There must be a government department in this country whose sole function is to come up with ideas on how to make things more complicated and create queues :bag: :banghead:

I think it is really needed here. So many here have no idea how to drive.

overtaking is a national sport here, along with double parking and no amount of "refresher courses" will remedy that... only traffic enforcement ...

I'm assuming that it is an attempt to remedy the practice where people, rather than take an exam, pay an LTO employee to get a drivers license. I do agree that it won't make much difference though, and that it'll just open more avenues to pay under the table, rather than improve drivers knowledge or their driving habits.

I do wonder if the issuance of a 10 years permit will be age limited here, like it is in the developed world.
In much of Europe, over 70 years of age, you can only get a 2 year extension of your drivers license, with a medical exam every two years.

Yes it is already part of the 10 year thing, I renewed in May of this year and was told that those over 70 will only get a 5 year Renewal as at 80, it will be a 3 year renewal They didn't know if there will be a final age to stop renewing but I would guess there will be at sometime but I have seen 90+ age people that have never had a license So............:pompus:

If there was any traffic enforcement at all most the bad driving habits would be cured very quickly with no need for "refresher" courses.
Regarding traffic i saw in the news that Dumaguete is going to waste 52M on traffic lights, that's about as funny as the sign on the Valencia road that states (slow vehicles use the right lane) :asshat:

I think traffic signals are going to make intersections in town much more dangerous (lights give people a false sense of security, especially with so many reckless drivers here) and, without anyone doing traffic studies or knowing how to set the timing up properly, will create massive traffic jams.

Hopefully they don't put the LTO in charge of setting those up. That would be a complete disaster.

Whatever happened to the point policeman on the Robinson junction, he was amazing the way he conducted the traffic. Not seen him for years.
