    So many wealthy arriving at COP26 in private jets that they had to disembark passenger(s) and then fly another 30 miles to park!

    The British Royals lecturing everyone ELSE to reduce their carbon foot print whilst owning 19 palaces and mansions plus flying private jets within the UK as well as abroad - jumping on the bandwagon might have seemed great for PR but the comments in right-wing media are very negative and when the Queen exits the fate of the RF is tenuous.

    I am going to look at the wealthy (that includes Prime Ministers, Presidents, members of governing bodies, the Royal Family and other Elite) for a lead - as soon as I see them taking the bus and living in small insulated houses then I will follow suite. Their hypocrisy has reduced my willingness to 'do my bit'.

    They may be hypocrites but if 7 billion people acted like the elite this world would be completely f*cked in less than a decade. Two wrongs don't make a right. However, the real issue is big corporations, they run these climate change campaigns that try to convince the average person the burden is on us when it is them that are responsible for 90% of the pollution. Recycling, especially when it comes to plastics and glass, is a complete joke (aluminium recycling is the only recycling that makes any sense). Corporations love to produce plastic because it is cheap and better for their bottom line and investors. Blaming cow farts for pollution is completely ridiculous as it is a closed system, they aren't adding anything to the system. These huge corporations have politicians in their pockets, there is zero chance any meaningful legislation will be passed in time.

    Corporate shill. He will say anything for money. Who is paying his salary during that interview? Given his record I'm not willing to listen to anything he has to say. Within the first 30 seconds of him speaking I could tell he was building up a faulty argument. No way of knowing if he is telling the truth or making sh@t up for a buck.

    No. Cows are ruminants with several stomachs and can process food that other animals can't, unlock the methane in the process and expel it into the atmosphere. Humans, poultry, etc., unlock small amounts of methane, the rest remains in the waste. About 80% of cow feed humans can't digest. The earth is one giant closed system, except for the sunlight. There is also frozen methane in seabeds, lakes, and tundra that is thawing out and bubbling into the atmosphere. So yea, cow stomachs unlock methane that would otherwise remain locked and it contributes.

    Never would I suggest that 7 billion people try to match the very wealthy Elite - only that the wealthy Elite don't trash the lives of the 7 billion and their descendants. Revolution might be on the way.

    Biogenic methane cycle lasts about 12 years. It is recycled by plants, which, in return, get eaten by animals and released again. No additional stock of methane and CO2 is being added to the system.

    Fossil methane is "new" methane (obviously not new, but it has been locked away for thousands/millions of years). This adds methane to the system.

    Don't blame cows. Our addiction to oil is the problem, not cow burps.

    I think the main reason we should get rid of many cows isn't the climate per se, but food insecurity looking forward long term. The amount of energy required to grow 1kg of beef is apparently very inefficient compared to alternative food.
    Moreover, we might plant trees where them cows used to graze, so indirectly it'll help the climate as well :smile:
