Kitchens and Termites

Being a Builder??? you should know better than anyone, that it takes mostly Electric specialised tools to cut and form Hardiflex like diamond cutting discs and Masonry drills, tools for metal and wood can hardly even mark it and even if they do they are blunted in an instant.

I'm quite sure Termites only use the old type hand tools to harvest their dinner?

bug proof cabinets have been on my to do list for awhile now, so i appreciate your post.

how are you joining the metal studs?

what material are you using for the drawers and the shelves?

is metal or plastic edging available for the hardiflex raw edges?

what are you gonna use for the counter tops?

on the ladder;
how are you fastening the rungs/steps to the rails?
any cross bracing?

Just about all Ladders are made in the same way and why change what works? ?

 

Woah!!!!! Slow down there Jimmy C. It was just a question as your photograph(s) were not clear enough to ascertain whether the base unit plinths are just wood (ply) or Hardiflex, or concrete encased in either.

PS - In order to maintain structural integrity rivets (blind or otherwise - including rivnuts) should have a minimum of 2D (that's twice the diameter of the rivet) of clean metal before a radius or material edge. FYI - I'm an engineer that's built a few houses - I never professed to be a "builder".

 

Sorry I read your question more as a statement than as a question, I did say it is almost termite free and the only wood used was a small post within the steel channel uprights to the front and explained this was to take the hinge screws. so a brief run down of the fabrication;
First a plinth/platform was laid and levelled made of Steel purlings 4x2 inch and 1.2mm thick with 12mm hardi fixed to top and to the front to form the kickboard, then the steel frame using 3x2inch 1.2mm was built on top, most of the rails but not all are of one piece, top bottom and the two uprights, taking all the measurements and cutting the steel channels at 45 degrees and then bending them at right angles kind of like a picture frame with mitres, mostly when I build with steel channels they are not fixed until the hardiflex is applied, (difficult for me to explain) only then a Hardidrive screw fixes the material and the joints in the steel all in one, when done with rivets you can get a raised portion to the board material when applied, the heavier than normal steel channel I use has to be adapted for this method, flanges and things have to be cut away as in the attached picture.

 

Here is a few more Pics of the developing Kitchen, I did not go with the false ready made marble tops mostly because I do not like the flecked pattern so I went with a Tile on top of a sheet of 12mm Hardiflex, for edging I used Tugas wood may also be called Molave? it is a hard wood in a light colour, there is also a pic of the ladder again, with one of my workers, everything in the Pics is Scottish made. That includes the Boy

 

I painted a new cabinet with poly, also the front door with remainder. Termites elsewhere, but not there.

 

What the feck is Poly??? is this some kind of txt speak, say what you mean in full please???
