Covid-2019 is not the only virus, especially during winter season. I've been experiencing the same in people around me, so far I am unaffected (and vaxxed up to date).

So the question now is......How are you feeling right now Rye?
My friend who's wife caught the virus, a few days later said to me, he "was full of cold", then, two days later he tested positive for the virus, so yes in many cases you are probably suffering its effects without knowing it.
I can only presume that having had all your vaccines, you suffer milder symptoms........If feeling unwell best advice is to isolate as a precautionary measure anyway.

Fine now for the most part. Sinuses are still clearing out the junk that had built up. GF came down with it a few days after I did and she is fine now as well (note: she was sick with something for 24 hours 3-4 days before I initially got sick, which I don't believe I caught, and then she came down with the same symptoms I had). Seemed a bit more than the common cold or flu, though I haven't had either for probably over a decade so maybe my memory of what being sick is like isn't all that good. I can't recall ever getting sick in the Philippines other than food borne illnesses. No telling what this was.

An odd illness this one. My wife's daughter (has had one dose of Covid vaccine) came to our house to be cared for when she had a fever on 14th Jan and recovered in 4 days (mostly fever, headache, dizziness) > On the 5th day she went to her home and my wife then came down with 'the illness' (also one dose vaccinated) but had low fever, no headache, blocked nose (seems like sinuses) and the nasal congestion lingered on, albeit less, for many days > On the 5th day after my wife first showed symptoms, I then went down with the illness.

    A few interesting points:
    1. My symptoms were very similar to my wife's daughter (age 20) but my wife's were different to ours - even though I am fairly sure the causative agent (very likely a virus) was the same and passed from daughter to mother to me. However I also have a lingering mild chest infection.
    2. Someone suggested this might be Omicron in vaccinated people - but I am not vaccinated.
    3. Your illness is like a combination of the illness my wife's daughter and I had in your early stages but you now have the infected sinuses my wife had from early on.
    4. There must be a massive number of locals with this illness and yet figures for Covid cases do not reflect a massive outbreak of that disease. It could be flu (although seeming too contagious?) but surely that would be picked up by Public Health (or maybe not considering where we live). I have seen no references to it in any online newspapers.

There are too many acute respiratory infections to make a serious guess at which this one is - possibly a common one which hit harder against a human population which has not mixed (and so swapped microbes) much in the last 2 years; a common one which mutated (trying to keep up with Covid!); something which recombined with some Covid genes (?). It would be very interesting to know and perhaps in the vast amount of sample collecting and analysis that takes place here (we hear), an answer will arise.

Perhaps as Covid starts to decline and the 'new normal' comes back, we might find more of these rapidly-spreading infections as they wait in the wings for their opportunity.

They are now talking about "stealth omicron", an omicron variant that has very mild short-lasting symptoms and does not show positive with current covid tests. It is pure speculation to think this is what everybody is getting, and I'm kind of doubtful. But, there are a lot of mitigation efforts going on with the social distancing and mask wearing, and you would think that would reduce the spreading of a flu virus. This seems pretty significant to me, I've had it, everybody I know has had it, all my friends in Manila have had it and everybody that they know has had it. Why no DOH statement and nothing in the media? I think it is pretty important to answer the question of whether this is a flu or a covid variant.

Same here, I have felt great since moving to a nearly single season warm climate bit like most others, something caught me this year that has been lingering. It must be easy to get because we don't leave the property often, maybe every 2 weeks at most just to get supplies.

Perhaps we dont hear about it in the media because people don't want to get tested, cant afford the test, and if it is not bad enough to go to the hospital, then they are trying to live and earn as they would have 3 years ago. The DOH is only giving info they can show on statistics.
No work - no pay is a big insentive. So to most, just take some OTC RX and keep going is their best option.

    I don't know.
Whatever this is has infected a lot of people. The pharmacies in Dumaguete are out of dry cough medicine. Some of the pharmacies are out of Bio-Flu and Biogesic.

Although not perfect, there is a lot of mask wearing and people tend to stay away from each other. Whatever this is, it is very contagious.

The subvariant of Omicron that has been tagged as "stealth" is called BA2.
BA2 appears to be about twice as infectuous as regular Omicron, and causes similar severity of illness.
The reason it has been dubbed "stealth" is not because it evades detection with tests, but rather that this subvariant is missing certain characteristics that Omicron has, which make it possible to discern between Delta and Omicron even without sequencing. In order to distinguish between BA2 and other variants sequencing is necessary.
